The panna cotta sets beautifully, offering a smooth and delicate texture that melts in your mouth.

What I love most about this panna cotta is its versatility. The blueberry sauce can be easily customized to your liking. Feel free to experiment with different berries like raspberries or strawberries, or even use a store-bought jam for a quick and easy alternative. The panna cotta itself also offers a fantastic base for various toppings. A sprinkle of toasted nuts, a drizzle of honey, or even a dollop of whipped cream can elevate this dessert to new heights. The possibilities are endless! I often find myself adapting this recipe depending on the season and the ingredients I have on hand. In the summer, I like to use fresh, locally sourced berries, while in the winter, I might opt for a warming spice like cinnamon to add a comforting touch.

Beyond its deliciousness and ease of preparation, this dessert offers a sense of calm amidst the chaos of my daily routine. The process of creating something beautiful and delicious from simple ingredients is incredibly therapeutic. The gentle simmering of the cream and the anticipation of watching the panna cotta set are meditative moments in my day, providing a brief respite from the demands of my career. It's a reminder that even amidst a busy schedule, there's always time to create something special, something that nourishes both the body and the soul. And the best part? Sharing this delicious dessert with friends and family. Watching their faces light up as they savor the first bite is a reward in itself, making this simple recipe a true testament to the power of delicious food and shared moments.

Ingredients I used:

  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup water
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cups fresh blueberries (or thawed and drained frozen)
  • 1 envelope unflavored powdered gelatin
  • 1 cup whole fat buttermilk

Tips for Success:

  • Use high-quality ingredients for the best flavor.
  • Make sure your gelatin is completely dissolved to prevent lumps in the panna cotta.
  • Allow the panna cotta to set completely in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours for the best texture.
  • Get creative with your toppings! A sprinkle of nuts, a drizzle of honey, or a dollop of whipped cream can all add delicious touches.

This Buttermilk Panna Cotta with Blueberry Sauce is more than just a dessert; it's a small act of self-care, a moment of indulgence, and a delicious way to share joy with loved ones. It's a recipe that has become a staple in my life, a testament to the simple pleasures that make life sweeter.

Step-by-step

    • Add blueberries, water, and sugar to a medium saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a boil then add the lemon juice and reduce heat to medium low. Simmer until the sauce begins to thicken, about 10 minutes. Occasionally stir and use the back of a wooden spoon to crush a few of the blueberries into the sauce. Cool to room temperature.
    • Add cream, honey, vanilla bean and seeds to a medium saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a simmer then remove from the heat, cover and allow the cream to steep for 30 minutes.
    • After 30 minutes, add 1/4 cup of water to a small bowl and sprinkle with powdered gelatin.
    • Reheat the cream, remove the vanilla pod, and then add reserved gelatin. Remove from heat and whisk well until gelatin has dissolved. Add buttermilk and whisk until blended.
    • To assemble, spoon a small amount of blueberry sauce into the bottom of each serving glass/bowl then carefully pour the panna cotta mixture over the blueberry sauce (the sauce may mix into the panna cotta slightly, this is normal).
    • Leave at room temperature for 20 minutes, and then store, covered in the refrigerator until set, about 4 hours.
