My Unexpected Aquavit Adventure: Chilling Drinks, Freezing Flowers

As a busy working mom, I'm always looking for creative ways to add a little bit of elegance and fun to my life. This might seem like an unusual place to find it, but trust me, my recent experiment with freezing a bottle of aquavit turned into a unexpectedly delightful experience.

It all started with a simple idea. I had a bottle of aquavit that I wanted to keep super cold for a special occasion, but I knew that regular refrigeration wouldn't quite cut it. I was browsing some online craft ideas and came across a method for freezing a bottle of liquor within a floral display, and suddenly I knew exactly how I could elevate the coldness of my aquavit!

The process itself was incredibly simple, even amidst my hectic schedule. I found a clean half-gallon milk carton and carefully placed the aquavit inside, arranging beautiful flowers around it. Filling the carton with water, I then placed the entire creation in the freezer. The anticipation of watching the aquavit chill, surrounded by the frozen blossoms, was delightful in itself. It felt like a tiny work of art developing right in my freezer.

The result exceeded my expectations. After a night in the freezer, the aquavit was perfectly chilled, not frozen solid, but with a delightful, syrupy consistency. Removing it from its icy floral prison was part of the fun. It was like uncovering a hidden treasure. The effect was stunning, the bottle glistened beautifully. It was a perfect conversation starter and something totally unexpected.

This simple technique has become a new favorite for me. It's not just a clever way to chill a bottle, but it also brings an element of artistry to everyday life. I've already started experimenting with different flower types and arrangements, and I'm excited to explore the possibilities. Perhaps next time I'll try adding some edible flowers to truly elevate the experience. And who knows, maybe I'll even develop a whole new cocktail inspired by this frozen aquavit adventure. The possibilities truly are limitless! It's a reminder that even small, creative acts can add significant joy to life. It's a simple reminder to slow down, appreciate the small things and to maybe explore unusual ways to chill your drink - especially if it involves flowers and a little bit of creative magic!

So, if you're looking for a unique way to chill your spirits, or just need a fun project to try, I highly recommend giving this method a shot. It's simple, beautiful, and surprisingly effective. Don't be surprised if it sparks a new passion for creative chilling in your life too. Now if you'll excuse me, I have some flowers to arrange, some aquavit to chill and a few cocktails to develop. Cheers!

Step-by-step

    • Open fully the top of a cleaned half-gallon milk carton to extend the length of the carton.
    • Wrap the outside and bottom of the carton with foil.
    • Put the aquavit in the carton close to one side, leaving as much space as possible for the flowers.
    • Cut the flower stems to various lengths to fit the space.
    • Fill the carton with distilled water to within 1/2 inch of the top.
    • Arrange the flowers carefully in the water, using the bottle to wedge them if they begin to float.
    • Transfer the carton to the freezer, spoon in enough water to reach the top of the carton, and freeze the aquavit overnight.
    • The aquavit may be frozen 1 week in advance.
    • Remove the foil and let the aquavit stand at room temperature for 15 minutes.
    • Peel off the carton and put the aquavit on a napkin-covered surface. (The aquavit does not freeze but becomes ice-cold and syrupy.)
