This Ho Ho Cake recipe has been a staple in our family for as long as I can remember. It’s the kind of dessert that evokes memories, the kind that brings a smile to everyone's face. My mom, bless her heart, always made this for every family gathering. The rich chocolate, the creamy filling, the perfectly balanced sweetness – it's a recipe that's been perfected over years of baking and tweaking. And I can honestly say, it's the best darn cake I've ever tasted. And my family and friends will attest to that.

The beauty of this recipe lies not just in its deliciousness, but also in its simplicity. It’s surprisingly easy to make, especially considering the incredible flavor payoff. I love how it manages to be both decadent and comforting at the same time. It’s the kind of cake that makes any occasion feel extra special, even a Tuesday night.

The Magic of the Ingredients: While the recipe itself calls for standard baking ingredients like cake mix, sugar, butter, and chocolate, it’s the way these ingredients are combined that makes this cake truly special. Each layer adds its own unique dimension. The moist cake forms a perfect foundation, then the whipped cream-like white center adds a delightful burst of creamy sweetness, and the rich chocolate glaze provides the perfect finishing touch. It's a symphony of flavors and textures.

Step-by-step

    • Prepare cake mix according to package directions except bake in a jellyroll pan. Reduce baking time to about 15-20 minutes or until done. Cool completely.
    • Cook milk and cornstarch until thick and smooth. Cool completely.
    • Beat together remaining ingredient until like whipped cream. Add cooled milk mixture and beat until all granulated sugar has dissolved completely. (About 10-20 minutes depending on the strength of your mixer.)
    • Carefully spread onto cooked cake.
    • Mix together all ingredients except for hot water. Add hot/boiling water and mix together quickly. As soon as it is mixed, quickly drizzle and spread over cake before it has a chance to set. (Add more hot water if necessary if it won't pour.)
