My Go-To Gluten-Free Slicing Bread

As a busy mom, time in the kitchen is precious. I need recipes that are reliable, delicious, and don't take all day. This gluten-free slicing bread recipe fits the bill perfectly. It's become a true staple in my household, a blank canvas for countless culinary creations. From simple sandwiches for school lunches to the star of a decadent apple caramel monkey bread (a recipe I'll share another time!), this bread is incredibly versatile.

The beauty of this recipe lies in its simplicity. The ingredients are straightforward, and the process, while involving a few steps, is easy to follow, even on a busy weekday morning. I love how the bread turns out – a soft, airy crumb that perfectly complements both sweet and savory fillings. It’s the kind of bread that disappears quickly from the breadbasket, a testament to its delightful taste and texture. The recipe is adaptable too; I often experiment with adding different seeds or herbs to the dough for a little extra flavor boost.

What I particularly appreciate is its ability to be made in either a traditional oven or a bread machine. On days when I'm short on time, I rely on my trusty bread machine to do most of the work. It kneads the dough beautifully and handles the baking process with ease, leaving me free to tackle other tasks. But, if I have more time and feel like getting my hands a bit messy, making it in the oven provides a more hands-on experience, and I love the feeling of the warm dough rising slowly in the pan.

Beyond its practical uses, this bread holds a special place in my heart. It represents the comfort and satisfaction of creating something delicious from scratch. It’s more than just a loaf of bread; it’s a symbol of home, warmth, and the simple joy of feeding my family wholesome, homemade food. The aroma alone is enough to fill the kitchen with a sense of coziness and contentment. And let’s not forget the pride I feel when serving this bread to guests, knowing I've made it myself. The compliments are always plentiful, a great reward for a simple recipe that delivers such extraordinary results. It's a recipe I will always treasure and will happily continue to bake for years to come.

This bread recipe has become more than just a recipe, it’s a cherished tradition in our home. It’s a recipe that's been passed down through our family’s generations, and I’m so happy to share it with you. I hope it becomes a staple in your kitchen, too. The recipe's versatility allows for endless possibilities, from simple sandwiches to elaborate dessert creations. Don't be afraid to experiment with different additions and toppings; the possibilities are endless! I encourage you to try it out, and I am confident that this bread will quickly become a family favorite.

Beyond the practical aspects, baking this bread provides a wonderful opportunity to connect with my family. The aroma of baking bread fills the house with a warm, inviting fragrance, and the process itself creates a sense of togetherness. It’s a beautiful thing to see my children help with measuring ingredients, or eagerly awaiting the moment when the warm, golden-brown loaf is finally ready to be sliced. And, of course, sharing the finished product together, creating memories around a simple yet wholesome meal, is priceless. It's a wonderful way to create happy memories that last a lifetime, all while enjoying delicious homemade bread. I hope this recipe brings as much joy to your kitchen as it does to mine.

Step-by-step

    • Spray an 81/2 x 41/2-inch or 9 x 5-inch loaf pan with vegetable spray.
    • In the bowl of a heavy-duty mixer, add the flour blend, milk powder, brown sugar, and yeast and mix to combine.
    • Mix together the water, eggs, and vegetable oil in a separate bowl. Add to the dry ingredients.
    • Beat on low for 1 minute. Beat on medium-high speed for 3 minutes or until the mixture is smooth, shiny, and has thickened.
    • Scrape the dough into the prepared pan.
    • Cover with lightly oiled plastic wrap and set in a warm, draft-free area until the dough rises to the top of the pan.
    • Preheat the oven to 375°F. Remove the plastic wrap and bake on the middle rack for 40 to 45 minutes, until the top sounds hollow when tapped and the internal temperature reads 190°to 200°F.
    • Remove and turn out onto a wire rack.
    • Cool completely before slicing.
    • Combine the eggs, water, and vegetable oil and pour into the bread pan.
    • Combine the flour blend and milk powder. Spoon over the wet ingredients.
    • Sprinkle the yeast over the top.
    • Follow the instructions of the machine for proper setting or pick a setting that allows for one knead and rise cycle and a 50 minute bake time.
    • Use Vance's DariFree or powdered soy milk in place of powdered milk.
