Becky's Modified Cinnabon Rolls: A Baker's Delight

As a busy mom, I'm always on the lookout for recipes that are both delicious and convenient. This modified Cinnabon roll recipe has become a staple in our home, winning several family baking contests! What sets it apart is its adaptability to long-term storage ingredients – a lifesaver when you need a quick and impressive dessert without a last-minute grocery run. The results are unbelievably fluffy, melt-in-your-mouth rolls, generously coated in a dreamy cream cheese frosting. Trust me, these are addictive!

The beauty of this recipe lies in its versatility. I often swap ingredients based on what I have on hand, whether it's using different types of flour or even incorporating seasonal spices for a unique twist. For instance, during the fall, I love adding a touch of pumpkin spice to the dough, and in the summer, I might use a lighter, citrus-infused frosting. The base recipe, however, remains consistently perfect, delivering a wonderful texture and flavor profile every single time.

One of my favorite modifications is making smaller rolls. The original recipe yields large rolls, perfect for sharing. However, I prefer smaller portions, as I find them more manageable and less overwhelming. This way, you get to enjoy the delightful indulgence without the guilt of eating an entire large roll. The key is to adjust the baking time accordingly. Smaller rolls will bake faster, usually around 12-15 minutes, so keep a close eye on them to prevent over-baking.

Beyond the taste and convenience, this recipe brings a sense of satisfaction to my baking endeavors. I love the process of kneading the dough, watching it rise, and the anticipation of that first bite. It's a calming ritual that allows me to unwind after a long day. The aroma that fills the kitchen while they bake is pure magic, enticing family and friends alike.

I highly encourage you to try this recipe and make it your own. Experiment with different ingredients, adjust the sweetness, and personalize it to your liking. It's a perfect recipe for sharing with loved ones or even as a small act of kindness for a neighbor. And for those moments when you just need a little comfort food, these Cinnabon rolls will be your sweet escape.

Tips and Tricks for Perfect Cinnabon Rolls:

  • Don't rush the rising process. Adequate rising time is crucial for achieving that light and fluffy texture.
  • Use high-quality ingredients. The better your ingredients, the better your rolls will taste.
  • Don't overbake the rolls. Overbaked rolls will be dry and tough.
  • Let the rolls cool slightly before frosting. This will prevent the frosting from melting too quickly.
  • Get creative with the frosting! Try adding different extracts, spices, or even chocolate chips to the cream cheese frosting.

This recipe is more than just a dessert; it’s a tradition, a comfort, a celebration. Each bite is a reminder of the simple joys of life and the satisfaction of creating something delicious with your own two hands. So gather your ingredients, put on some music, and prepare to be amazed by the delightful aroma and the irresistible taste that awaits you. Happy baking!

Step-by-step

    • Combine all ROLL ingredients together.
    • Blend until smooth.
    • Place in a greased bowl.
    • Cover and let rise until doubled.
    • Punch down dough and let rise again.
    • Roll out on floured board to 34 x 21" and about 1/2 inch thick.
    • Filling: Spread 1 cup butter over surface.
    • Then spread with 2 cups brown sugar, and 4 tsp cinnamon.
    • Roll up very tightly from the long side.
    • With a knife or a thread, (new dental floss works very well), cut every 2 inches.
    • (I make much smaller rolls- about every 1 inch, as I think these are too large a serving for most people).
    • Place on lightly greased, HIGH-SIDED, NOT COOKIE SHEET, pan, 2 inches apart.
    • (I put them about 1-1 1/2 inches apart).
    • Take hand and lightly press down on each roll.
    • Cover and let rise until double again.
    • Bake at 350 for 15-20 minutes.
    • Remove when they start to turn golden.
    • Don't over bake.
    • Frost warm rolls with Cream cheese Frosting.
    • Makes about 20 VERY large rolls. (My size makes at least 30, maybe more...)
    • Frosting: Mix Cream Cheese Frosting ingredients until smooth and creamy.
    • Spread over slightly warm rolls.
