Easy White Bread for Large Pullman Pan

Easy White Bread for Large Pullman Pan
Easy White Bread for Large Pullman Pan
This recipe fits a 13-14 inch Pullman pan. Easier ingredient list than other recipes. I mix it in my bread machine, then shape and set in the pan for the second rise. You can hand knead or use your mixer. I get 20 slices out of this recipe. A favorite for sandwiches and toast. You don't have to use the Pullman pan; if you don't, use two 8-inch loaf pans and get two nice puffy loaves.

My Go-To Easy White Bread Recipe

As a busy working mom, time in the kitchen is a precious commodity. I need recipes that are simple, reliable, and produce delicious results without demanding hours of my day. This easy white bread recipe has become my absolute go-to. It’s perfect for sandwiches, toast, or simply enjoying a warm slice with a cup of tea. The best part? It's incredibly versatile. I originally made it for my 13-inch Pullman pan, creating a beautifully even loaf, perfect for slicing into 20 generous portions. But if you don’t have a Pullman pan (don’t worry, I didn’t for a long time!), two standard 8-inch loaf pans work just as well, resulting in two lovely loaves.

What sets this recipe apart is its simplicity. The ingredient list is short and sweet, making it a breeze to whip up. The instructions are straightforward and, even better, I can easily adapt it to suit my available tools. Sometimes I use my bread machine to do the mixing and first rise—a real time saver, especially on busy weekday mornings. Other times, when I have a little more time to spare, I enjoy the more hands-on experience of kneading the dough myself. The entire process, from start to finish, rarely takes longer than a couple of hours, which suits my lifestyle perfectly.

This bread has become a staple in our household. My kids love it for sandwiches, especially their favorite peanut butter and jelly. My husband enjoys it toasted with avocado for breakfast. And, let’s be honest, I love a warm slice with a pat of butter any time of the day. The texture is soft and fluffy, with a light, slightly sweet flavor. The crust is perfectly golden brown, offering a delightful contrast to the airy interior. The recipe’s simplicity is matched only by the deliciousness of the outcome, making it a winner in my book.

I’ve experimented with variations over the years. Sometimes I add a sprinkle of herbs to the dough for an extra layer of flavor. Other times, I brush the finished loaf with a garlic-herb butter for an extra savory kick. But even in its simplest form, this recipe delivers incredibly tasty results. The ability to adapt it to my needs, whether it’s using different pans or customizing the flavors, makes it an invaluable recipe in my ever-growing collection of kitchen essentials. And if you're looking for a reliable, easy, and utterly delicious white bread recipe, look no further.

Baking this bread has become more than just preparing food; it’s a small act of self-care, a way to disconnect from the day's stresses and focus on creating something delicious and comforting. The aroma of freshly baked bread filling the kitchen is a guaranteed mood booster, and the satisfaction of seeing my family enjoy something I've made with my own hands is truly rewarding. It’s a recipe that embodies ease, versatility, and deliciousness, making it a perfect fit for any busy lifestyle.

The process is simple, yet satisfying. The rising of the dough, the golden-brown crust, the soft fluffy interior... they all add to a sensory experience that transcends a simple bread recipe. This bread is a perfect example of this philosophy. It’s a recipe I’ll continue to bake for years to come, a comforting constant in a world that often feels anything but.

Step-by-step

    • Select Dough setting on your bread machine.
    • Put ingredients in the machine in the order suggested by your machine manufacturer. Let rise about 90 minutes until double in size.
    • Meanwhile, generously butter your Pullman Pan and lid.
    • Remove dough from machine. Handle dough with greased hands. Form into a log approximately 12-13 inches long. Place in pan, pressing the ends into corners and pan edges.
    • Place lid on, leaving open about an inch so you can peek.
    • Let rise until about 2/3 full or about an inch and a half from the pan top. About 60 minutes. Near the end of the rising time, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
    • Close lid fully. Bake for 25 minutes. Remove lid. Bake for another 15-20 minutes until golden brown or desired crust color is achieved.
    • Internal temp of bread should be 190°F (88°C) when tested with an instant-read thermometer.
    • Remove from pan to rack. If desired, brush crust with butter for a softer crust. Let cool before slicing. Store in an airtight bag.
