Candied Smoked Chipotle Bacon
This is ingenuous. I've done catering for about 45 years now and just haven't thought to thread bacon on a skewer! Sometimes the obvious jumps ahead of us. I've threaded other things like bread dough, puff pastry, cheese pastry, fruit, more solid meats, veggies, fruit and cake, you name it. Never even thought to do bacon. Would be so ideal for a brunch buffet. You can stand it in a gorgeous pitcher or vase as a bacon centerpiece! lol I am off my rocker, but, I love the idea of this. Will definitely try it. I am not a chipotle lover though, so, it'll be a different flavor bacon for us. I'd like this with a black pepper bacon, and nix the black pepper in the recipe and use some red pepper flake maybe for an extra zing.

Candied Smoked Chipotle Bacon: A Brunch Buffet Delight

As a busy mom of three, time is my most precious commodity. Weekends are for family, and I’m always looking for creative ways to impress my family without spending hours in the kitchen. This Candied Smoked Chipotle Bacon recipe is a perfect example of simple elegance. It’s not just delicious; it’s visually stunning, making it an ideal centerpiece for any brunch buffet. The idea of threading bacon onto skewers initially struck me as unconventional, almost rebellious against the traditional bacon-on-a-plate norm. But the more I thought about it, the more I loved it.

The beauty of this recipe lies in its versatility. While the original recipe calls for chipotle-smoked bacon, feel free to experiment. Black pepper bacon, as suggested in the original recipe description, sounds equally tempting. Or, if you’re feeling adventurous, try a different spice blend altogether. The candied coating adds a delightful sweetness that perfectly complements the smoky bacon. I personally love the visual appeal of this dish. Picture this: golden-brown bacon skewers arranged in a rustic wooden bowl, the sweet, glistening glaze catching the light. It's the kind of dish that sparks conversation and adds a touch of unexpected flair to any gathering.

The preparation is incredibly straightforward, making it ideal for busy mornings. The baking time is relatively short, allowing you to focus on other brunch preparations. And cleanup is a breeze! This recipe is more than just food, it’s an experience. It’s about creating something beautiful and delicious with minimal effort, and sharing that joy with those you love. Beyond brunch, these candied bacon skewers are great for casual get-togethers and even make a unique appetizer for a dinner party. I sometimes prepare a small batch on weeknights and use them as a fun and delicious addition to my children's lunchboxes. It’s a great way to sneak in extra protein and a little treat for those little tummies. The convenience, the flavour, and the elegance of this recipe have earned it a permanent place in my recipe book.

Beyond its convenience and deliciousness, this recipe has become a testament to my own culinary evolution. I’ve always loved experimenting in the kitchen, and this recipe is a perfect reflection of that spirit. It's a reminder that sometimes the most innovative ideas come from the simplest of concepts. It's about taking something familiar, like bacon, and transforming it into something unexpected and unforgettable. And that, my friends, is the true magic of cooking.

Tips and Variations:

  • Spice it up: Add a pinch of cayenne pepper or red pepper flakes to the sugar mixture for extra heat.
  • Sweet and Savory: Experiment with different types of sugar, such as maple sugar or brown sugar. A touch of honey would also be wonderful.

  • Presentation: Arrange the bacon skewers on a platter, in a bowl, or even in a glass vase for a stunning presentation.

Step-by-step

    • Preheat the oven to 350°F.
    • Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and set a cooling rack on top (I just used a disposable aluminum foil tray with ridges for easy clean up).
    • In a shallow dish, mix sugar, cinnamon, and black pepper.
    • Dip bacon slices in the sugar mixture, coating both sides, and thread each strip of bacon onto a wooden skewer.
    • Place the bacon skewers on the rack.
    • Bake for 25 to 35 minutes, or until the bacon appears to be caramelized and crispy.
    • Serve warm or at room temperature.
