Pizza Bread
I have made this bread. It's fantastic and so simple. I love to make a caprese bread with it, by grilling or toasting and layering on fresh homegrown tomatoes, fresh basil leaves, and buffalo mozzarella and drizzle of good evoo. I can make my meal on this, it's so good and protein rich.

My Unexpectedly Delicious Pizza Bread Journey

As a busy working mom, finding time to cook delicious and nutritious meals often feels like a Herculean task. Between early mornings, school runs, and long hours at the office, the last thing I usually want to do when I get home is spend hours in the kitchen. But let me tell you, this pizza bread recipe has become a game-changer. It's so simple, yet incredibly satisfying and versatile, fitting perfectly into my busy schedule and my family's love for flavorful food.

I stumbled upon this recipe quite accidentally, while browsing through a food blog during my lunch break. The simplicity of the ingredients and the promise of a quick and easy bake time immediately caught my eye. Being somewhat skeptical, I decided to give it a try. I mean, how hard could it be? The result completely blew me away. The aroma filling my kitchen during baking was intoxicating, and the final product? A soft, chewy bread packed with flavour, perfect for a quick weeknight dinner or a fun weekend brunch.

What I love most about this pizza bread is its versatility. It’s incredibly adaptable to any taste preference. I started by using my favorite toppings – pepperoni, sun-dried tomatoes, and olives, but the possibilities are truly endless. One day, I might add some roasted vegetables and goat cheese for a more Mediterranean twist. Another day, I'll load it up with spicy Italian sausage and peppers. The beauty of it is, you can easily customize it to match your mood and the ingredients you have on hand. It's a blank canvas waiting for your culinary creativity.

Beyond its versatility, this pizza bread is a nutritional powerhouse. The addition of whole wheat flour (which I often substitute for part of the all-purpose flour) boosts the fiber content, making it a satisfying and healthy meal option. I've even started experimenting with adding different types of cheese for extra protein and flavor, making it a complete meal in itself.

This pizza bread isn't just a quick and easy dinner solution; it’s also become a fun activity to do with my kids. They love helping me measure out the ingredients, knead the dough (a surprisingly therapeutic experience!), and choose their favorite toppings. It’s a great way to spend quality time together while creating something delicious. Plus, it's incredibly rewarding to see their faces light up when they bite into a warm, cheesy slice.

More than just a bread, this recipe has become a symbol of simplicity and resourcefulness in my often chaotic life. It's a testament to the fact that delicious, healthy meals don't have to be complicated or time-consuming. With just a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can create something truly special – and that's a valuable lesson I've learned along the way.

So, whether you’re a busy professional, a stay-at-home parent, or simply someone who appreciates delicious, easy meals, I wholeheartedly recommend trying this pizza bread recipe. It’s a culinary adventure that's sure to become a staple in your kitchen, just as it has in mine.

Step-by-step

    • Sprinkle yeast over warm water in a large bowl. Let it sit for 3 minutes.
    • Add in flour, salt, and sugar. Mix using a spoon just until it comes together. (There's no need for a big stand mixer here.)
    • Add in the toppings and Parmesan and combine well. The dough will be tacky. Dust with a bit more flour if it feels too tacky.
    • Let rise for about 1 hour, then put in the refrigerator to continue rising for another hour.
    • Take the dough out of the refrigerator. Flour your countertop, then roll out the dough into a rectangle about 11x17".
    • Sprinkle mozzarella over top.
    • Then, fold along the long side, like an envelope. Seal sides so cheese is not exposed.
    • Let your loaf rest while you preheat oven to 450 degrees F.
    • Bake the bread, either on a pizza stone or baking sheet, for 30 to 35 minutes, until golden brown. About halfway through I added a piece of aluminum foil to the top of my loaf to prevent it from getting too dark.
    • About 3 minutes before taking it out, lightly brush the top with olive oil and let it finish baking.
    • Let rest on a wire rack to cool slightly before slicing.
