Captain Tripp's Amazing Oven Brisket

My Go-To Weeknight Brisket: Easy, Delicious, and Endless Possibilities

As a busy working mom, time is my most precious commodity. Dinner needs to be quick, easy, and – most importantly – delicious. That's why Captain Tripp's Amazing Oven Brisket has become a staple in our household. Forget complicated techniques and endless hours in the kitchen; this recipe delivers tender, flavorful brisket with minimal effort. The best part? The leftovers are just as amazing! I've found so many ways to reuse this incredible meat, from hearty tacos and chili to satisfying BBQ sandwiches. It's a true weeknight winner.

The beauty of this recipe is its adaptability. I often adjust it based on what I have on hand or what my family is craving. Sometimes I add a touch of smoked paprika to the rub for an extra layer of smoky flavor, or I’ll swap out the beef broth for chicken broth for a slightly different taste profile. The possibilities are really endless. The key is to start with a good quality brisket. A well-marbled brisket ensures juicy and tender results. And let's not forget the amazing aroma that fills your kitchen while it cooks – it’s seriously irresistible.

This recipe is perfect for meal prepping. I usually make a large batch on a Sunday afternoon, slicing and storing the leftovers in the fridge. This way, I have quick and easy meals ready for the rest of the week. I can easily assemble brisket tacos for a quick lunch or use the sliced brisket in a hearty bowl of chili for a comforting dinner. The leftovers also freeze extremely well. The secret is to wrap the sliced brisket tightly in foil with some of the cooking juices to maintain moisture and flavor. Trust me; it's just as delicious reheated!

But let's be honest, sometimes even the simplest recipes can present a few challenges. My biggest tip for achieving perfectly tender brisket is to ensure it’s cooked low and slow. The low temperature ensures that the collagen in the meat breaks down, resulting in that melt-in-your-mouth texture we all crave. And don’t be tempted to rush the cooking time. The longer it simmers, the more tender the meat will become. Patience, my friends, is key to brisket perfection!

Beyond the ease and deliciousness, this recipe is also budget-friendly. Brisket can be a relatively inexpensive cut of meat, especially when purchased in bulk or during sales. That makes it a fantastic option for feeding a family without breaking the bank. Combined with its versatility and the ability to use leftovers in a variety of dishes, this brisket recipe provides excellent value for your money.

So, if you're looking for a go-to weeknight meal that's easy, delicious, and offers endless possibilities, look no further than Captain Tripp's Amazing Oven Brisket. This recipe has become a true lifesaver for me, and I'm confident it will quickly become a favorite in your kitchen, too. It’s a culinary adventure that's both satisfying and stress-free, leaving you more time to enjoy the things that truly matter.

Remember, cooking should be enjoyable, and this recipe embodies that perfectly. It's a testament to the fact that simple, delicious meals are achievable even amidst the whirlwind of a busy lifestyle. So grab your ingredients, fire up your oven, and prepare for a taste sensation that will leave your family asking for seconds!

Step-by-step

    • Make a dry rub by combining chili powder, sea salt, garlic powder, black pepper, onion powder, brown sugar, dry mustard, and crushed bay leaves in a bowl. Stir and mix well.
    • Season the brisket on both sides with the rub, using it all.
    • Place the brisket, fat side up, in a roasting pan and roast, uncovered for 1 hour in a preheated oven at 350 degrees.
    • Take the roasting pan out of the oven and add the beef broth to the sides of the pan - you don't want to rinse off any of the rub.
    • Lower the oven to 300 degrees, cover the pan tightly with foil and cook an additional 3 1/2 hours for a five-pound brisket. Add about 1/2 hour for every additional pound over five pounds.
    • You can cook it longer to get it very, very tender, but I usually don't. If you want to cook it longer, reduce the heat to 200 degrees and let it cook for a few more hours.
    • Trim off most of the fat, slice the brisket and pour some juice over it before serving.
    • If you're going to freeze some of the brisket, freeze some of the juice with it.
