Scarlet O'Hara Cocktail

Scarlet O'Hara Cocktail
This may not be part of a true Polish Easter Brunch, but it's something that has been made for any special occasion in our family since back in the 70s. My Mom had gone to visit a cousin in Atlanta Georgia, and came back with this great new cocktail. Once we tried it, it's become a must for all the Holiday Meals. This is the version that I usually make. The Cran-Ras has more flavor and you put enough of the brandy in so that you can taste liquor. No matter how big a batch you make remember that this version uses 1 part Southern Comfort to 2 parts Brandy. If you don't seem to have enough liquor in it add a little more Brandy. Just make sure you keep track of everyone drinking this because it will definitely sneak up on you.

Scarlet O'Hara Cocktail: A Family Favorite

A Toast to Tradition: The Scarlet O'Hara Cocktail

This isn't your average brunch beverage; oh no, the Scarlet O'Hara cocktail holds a special place in our family's history. It all started back in the 70s, when my mom returned from a visit to Atlanta with a newfound culinary treasure. A cousin's secret recipe, this vibrant cocktail quickly transformed from a simple discovery into an indispensable part of every holiday gathering, every special occasion. It's become synonymous with celebration, a bubbly, fruity delight that marks milestone moments and joyful reunions.

Over the years, our family's version has evolved, refined, and perfected. We've tweaked the recipe here and there, always aiming for that perfect balance of tart cranberry-raspberry sweetness and a subtle, warming kick of brandy. The key, I've learned, is in the ratio: a delicate dance between Southern Comfort and brandy, ensuring a taste of both without overpowering the palate. One part Southern Comfort to two parts brandy; that's the magic formula. If you find yourself wanting a bolder liquor presence, just add a bit more brandy. Trust me, it's a flexible recipe that can be tailored to your taste buds. But keep in mind, this cocktail is deceptively potent. Its smooth and fruity nature disguises the alcohol, so sip responsibly and keep an eye on your guests!

The Memories in Every Sip

The Scarlet O'Hara cocktail isn't just a drink; it's a time capsule. Each sip transports me back to childhood holidays, the lively chatter of family, the laughter that echoed through our home. It's a reminder of simpler times, of family traditions passed down through generations. It's the taste of togetherness, the essence of cherished memories. I picture my mother, her eyes twinkling, preparing the cocktail, a symphony of ice clinking, juices blending, and the subtle aroma of brandy filling the air. It was more than just making a drink; it was creating an atmosphere, setting the stage for joyous celebrations.

A Perfect Blend of Flavors

Beyond the sentimental value, this cocktail simply tastes delicious. The tartness of cranberry-raspberry juice is perfectly balanced by the subtle sweetness, providing a refreshing and invigorating experience. The addition of fresh lemon juice adds a zesty brightness, further enhancing the cocktail's complexity. And don't forget the garnish! A sprig of mint adds a final touch of elegance and freshness.

More than a Cocktail, It's a Celebration

This is more than just a recipe; it’s a family heirloom, a cherished tradition passed down through generations. So, gather your loved ones, prepare this cocktail, and raise a glass to the simple joys of family, togetherness, and the enduring legacy of a special occasion drink.

Step-by-step

    • This is made in the pitcher of the blender and poured directly from it.
    • Fill about 1/3 with crushed ice, then to 2/3 line with Cran-raspberry juice.
    • Add liquor, about 1/3 cup of Southern Comfort and about 2/3 cup Brandy, plus the juice of about 1/2 a lemon. There should be enough booze in it so you can barely taste it.
    • Blend at high speed until it's foamy. Then place some ice cubes in fancy glasses, rub the rim with a lemon, and serve. This could be garnished with a sprig of mint.
