Rick's Pizza

Rick's Pizza
Rick's Pizza
I've made this pizza for over 30 years now and never actually measured the ingredients, just tasted as I made it. I measured ingredients this time in order to write up this recipe for the big oven database. We love it and our grandchildren insist on it every time they visit. The best pepperoni in the world for this pizza is Chris Brothers pepperoni from the east coast in Canada. Needless to say if one of our relatives visits from the east they are especially welcomed if they bring this.

Rick's Pizza: A Family Favorite for Over 30 Years

For over three decades, the aroma of Rick's Pizza has filled our home, bringing family and friends together around a table laden with delicious, bubbling slices. I've always made this pizza by feel, tasting and adjusting as I go, never bothering with precise measurements. But for the sake of sharing this beloved recipe, I finally measured everything out—a momentous occasion in our culinary history! This isn’t just a pizza; it's a tradition, a comforting taste of home that my grandchildren clamor for every visit.

The secret ingredient? Well, besides the love and years of perfected technique, it's the pepperoni. For those in the know, Chris Brothers pepperoni from Canada’s east coast is simply the best. Its flavor elevates the pizza to a whole new level. If you're lucky enough to have relatives visiting from that region, consider them extra special—especially if they bring a package of this amazing pepperoni! But don't worry if you can't get your hands on Chris Brothers; any good quality pepperoni will do. The important thing is the love and care you put into making it.

This recipe isn't just about the ingredients; it's about the memories made while creating it. The happy chaos in the kitchen as we roll out the dough, the lively discussions about toppings, and the satisfied sighs as the first slice disappears—these are the moments that make this pizza so special. It's a testament to the power of simple ingredients transformed by love and tradition.

The process itself is remarkably straightforward. The homemade sauce, bursting with the flavors of garlic, tomatoes, and herbs, is a masterpiece in simplicity. The combination of these flavors creates a taste experience that is utterly irresistible. The perfectly crisp crust, the generous layers of cheese and toppings—it's a symphony of textures and flavors that dance on your palate. And while the recipe suggests certain toppings, feel free to experiment. Add your own personal touches. It’s your pizza, after all! Customize it to your liking. This pizza is a blank canvas for your culinary creativity.

Beyond the deliciousness, this pizza represents something more profound. It's a tangible link to the past, a legacy passed down through generations. It's the kind of recipe that brings a smile to your face just thinking about it. The kind of recipe that you’ll inevitably pass down to your children and grandchildren. It's more than just food; it's a story, a tradition, and a taste of home. It's a piece of our family history, baked to perfection.

So, gather your ingredients, invite your loved ones, and prepare for a truly unforgettable pizza experience. The process itself is part of the fun! From kneading the dough to spreading the sauce, every step is an opportunity to create memories and share laughter with the people you care about most. And once the pizza is out of the oven, the real magic begins. Sharing a meal—a simple pizza—can be the most profound act of connection and love. So, make this pizza, share it with those you love, and savor every delicious bite!

Beyond the Recipe: This pizza is a testament to the power of simple ingredients and the love that goes into making them. The key to this recipe isn't just the ingredients, but the memories and traditions associated with it. It's a reminder that sometimes, the most cherished recipes are the ones that have been passed down through generations, each bite carrying with it a taste of history and family connection.

Remember to experiment with different toppings. One of our favorite variations includes adding some sharp cheddar for an extra burst of flavor. But feel free to personalize it based on your family’s preferences. The most important ingredient is love, and the result is always a delicious memory. Enjoy!

Step-by-step

    • Make pizza dough as per recipe.
    • Sauce (sauce recipe makes enough for 2 pizzas; if only making one, the rest can be frozen and used later.)
    • Add all ingredients to your food processor and blend until smooth.
    • Toppings: Follow my suggestions or choose your own. I sometimes add some old cheddar for a different taste.
    • Roll dough out onto greased pizza stones or cookie sheets.
    • Add sauce and spread evenly over dough.
    • Add the toppings you like and top with the cheese.
    • Bake in a 350 deg. oven until done (20-30 minutes; cheese will be bubbling).
    • Slice and serve immediately.
