My Honest Review: A Cocoa Powder Cookie Catastrophe (and Why You Should Skip This Recipe)

My Honest Review: A Cocoa Powder Cookie Catastrophe (and Why You Should Skip This Recipe)

Let me preface this by saying I've baked a LOT of cookies in my life. As a busy working mom, baking is my therapy, my escape, my way to de-stress and connect with my kids. I've experimented with countless recipes, from classic chocolate chip to elaborate macarons. I'm usually pretty confident in my skills, but this recipe? This cocoa powder cookie recipe? Let's just say it was a complete and utter disaster. I'm not exaggerating when I say this was one of the worst things I've ever put in my oven.

The initial excitement of a new cookie recipe was quickly dashed when I started mixing the ingredients. The batter was strangely grainy, not the smooth, luscious dough I'm used to. The instructions seemed simple enough, but something felt fundamentally off. Then came the baking. The cookies came out of the oven looking less like delightful treats and more like…well, I’m not even sure how to describe them. They were dense, dry, and completely lacked the satisfying chocolatey richness I crave. I tried to salvage them, letting them cool, hoping some miracle would transform them. It didn't. The texture was awful, and the taste wasn't much better. Let's just say they ended up in the trash. No regrets.

Baking should be fun, a joyous process from start to finish. This recipe was nothing but frustration. Maybe I did something wrong, maybe the ingredients weren't up to par, or maybe it's just a bad recipe altogether. Whatever the reason, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Save yourself the time, the effort, and the potential for cookie-related disappointment. There are countless other delicious cocoa powder cookie recipes out there that will undoubtedly produce far better results. Trust me on this one. Don’t waste your ingredients, your time, and most importantly, your baking spirit on this recipe. I’m all for trying new things, especially new cookie recipes, but this one was a genuine waste of time and resources. My baking cabinet is full of good options to choose from, trust your instincts, and trust your taste.

Instead of focusing on this unsuccessful recipe, perhaps I should share one of my favourite recipes instead. My family loves my double chocolate chip cookies, which are rich, chewy, and ridiculously easy to make. I’ll include the recipe sometime soon! Until then, I will still continue to experiment with new baking recipes, always keeping the spirit of baking and the taste of perfection as my top goals.

    • Let them cool.
