Ciabatta French Toast
I used my homemade ciabatta which means Italian bread to make this awesome French Toast. You could use almost any bread. I added some fresh vanilla bean paste or you can use vanilla extract. Just soak harder breads a little longer in the egg mixture and it will work well.

My Unexpected Culinary Adventure: Ciabatta French Toast

As a busy professional, my life often revolves around deadlines, meetings, and the constant hum of my laptop. Time for elaborate cooking is a luxury I rarely afford myself. My meals usually consist of quick, efficient options that fuel my day without demanding too much of my already limited time. However, last weekend, a surprising twist in my routine led to a delightful culinary experiment that resulted in a breakfast so satisfying, I felt compelled to share it with you. It all began with a leftover loaf of ciabatta bread – a testament to my infrequent attempts at baking. Instead of letting it harden into inedible oblivion, I decided to embrace the challenge of transforming it into something truly special.

The idea of French toast popped into my mind. It's a simple dish, but the beauty lies in its versatility. You can use virtually any kind of bread, and the possibilities for flavor combinations are endless. I started with the basics: eggs, a splash of cream for richness, a touch of cinnamon for warmth, and a generous dose of vanilla extract (because why not indulge a little?). The process itself was surprisingly therapeutic. The gentle soaking of the ciabatta in the egg mixture, the satisfying sizzle as it hit the hot buttered pan, the golden-brown crust slowly forming – each step was a small act of mindful creation. The result was incredibly satisfying. The slightly chewy texture of the ciabatta, perfectly complemented by the creamy custard-like coating and the sweet notes of vanilla and cinnamon, created a flavor profile that transcended my expectations. It was simple, yet unexpectedly luxurious.

This unexpected culinary journey reminded me of the importance of slowing down and finding joy in simple things. In the whirlwind of my busy life, taking the time to whip up a batch of French toast felt like a small rebellion, a quiet act of self-care that nourished not only my body but also my soul. It's a testament to the fact that even amidst the chaos, a bit of culinary creativity can transform the ordinary into something truly extraordinary. So, whether you are a seasoned baker or a kitchen novice like myself, I encourage you to try your hand at making this delicious and surprisingly simple French toast. The taste is a delightful reward that will make the effort well worth your while.

Beyond the immediate satisfaction of a delicious breakfast, this experience ignited a spark of curiosity within me. It challenged my preconceived notions about cooking being a time-consuming chore and opened my eyes to the potential for creativity even within the constraints of a busy schedule. The act of transforming simple ingredients into something flavorful and comforting was an unexpected source of joy and a reminder that even the smallest moments of mindful creation can bring a sense of peace and satisfaction to our lives. And who knows, perhaps this will lead to many more unplanned culinary adventures in the future!

Tips for Success:

  • Use day-old bread for the best results. It will absorb the egg mixture better.
  • Don't overcrowd the pan. Cook the slices in batches to ensure even browning.
  • Adjust the cooking time according to your bread's thickness and how soft or crispy you want it to be. Thicker slices will require longer cooking times.
  • Experiment with different toppings! Fresh berries, whipped cream, nuts, or even a drizzle of chocolate syrup can elevate this simple dish to new heights.

Enjoy your homemade Ciabatta French Toast!

Step-by-step

    • Beat eggs and add cream, vanilla and cinnamon together. (You can also wait and sprinkle the cinnamon on bread while cooking).
    • Stir and place bread in the mixture, flipping over to get full coverage of egg mixture in and on the bread.
    • Soft bread only a minute or two, and harder breads a little longer.
    • Melt 2 tbl of butter in a skillet or pan on med heat.
    • Place wet bread in pan and cook for a few minutes until golden brown on the bottom and flip and continue on the other side.
    • Then take out and add the other 2 tbl of butter to pan and cook the rest the same.
    • Serve warm with sliced strawberries or bananas with Pure maple syrup.
