My Mini Matcha Donut Adventure

A Busy Mom's Sweet Escape: Mini Matcha Donuts

Life as a working mom is a whirlwind. Between early morning school runs, demanding deadlines at the office, and the never-ending cycle of laundry and dinner prep, finding time for myself feels like a luxury. But even amidst the chaos, I crave those little moments of peace and quiet, those tiny pockets of indulgence that remind me to breathe and recharge. And lately, that indulgence has come in the form of these delectable mini matcha donuts.

I stumbled upon this recipe while scrolling through countless food blogs – a perfect blend of sweet and subtly earthy, these little treats are surprisingly easy to make, even on a weeknight. The vibrant green hue alone is enough to brighten up even the most stressful day, and the soft, fluffy texture melts in your mouth like a cloud of happiness. I love how versatile they are, too. One day, I might drizzle them with a simple chocolate glaze, and the next, I'll get creative with sprinkles, nuts, or even a dusting of powdered sugar. The possibilities are endless!

The process itself is remarkably therapeutic. The rhythmic whisking of the batter, the satisfying scent of matcha filling the kitchen, the gentle sizzle as they bake – it's a mini meditation session disguised as baking. And the best part? The kids absolutely adore them! It's become a little tradition – baking these mini matcha donuts on a weekend morning, sharing them over breakfast, and starting the day with a shared sweetness.

Beyond the deliciousness and the therapeutic baking process, these donuts also feel like a small act of self-care. It's a way to celebrate the small victories, acknowledge the hard work, and simply enjoy a few moments of quiet pleasure. In a world that demands so much of us, it's important to remember to prioritize those moments of self-nurturing. And for me, that often involves a batch of these mini matcha donuts, a cup of tea, and a few minutes of quiet contemplation. Baking isn't just about creating delicious treats; it's about crafting moments of joy and relaxation in the midst of a busy life.

Beyond the Recipe: These mini matcha donuts have become more than just a recipe to me. They've become a symbol of self-care, a reminder to slow down, and a delicious way to connect with my family. And that, I think, is the most rewarding aspect of baking – it's not just about the final product, but the journey, the experience, and the memories created along the way.

So, if you're looking for a quick, easy, and utterly delicious treat that’s also a little bit therapeutic, I highly recommend giving these mini matcha donuts a try. They might just become your new favorite way to unwind and recharge after a long day.

Step-by-step

    • Preheat oven to 180 deg C.
    • Grease mini donut pan with cooking spray or melted butter. Set aside.
    • In a large measuring cup or a bowl, sift in flour, baking powder and matcha powder.
    • Add sugar and whisk with a hand whisk till mixture combined.
    • Add in beaten egg, milk, oil and honey then gently whisk till batter smooth. Do not over mix.
    • Slowly pour batter into prepared muffin pan.
    • Baked in preheated oven for about 8-10 minutes or until donuts spring back when touched.
    • Cool donuts in pan for 2 minutes before removing it from tray and set aside on cooling rack.
    • Melt chocolate in microwave or on double boiler over stove.
    • Dip the donuts with melted chocolate and decorate topping as desired. I used chocolate balls, toasted white sesame seeds and chopped pistacho nuts.
