These are so crazy good. I made them with puff pastry shells, and just heated the pie filling on the stove. I filled the shells and glazed, then served. Amazing enough for company!

Watching the puff pastry rise and brown in the oven, transforming into these beautiful, delicate blossoms, is truly magical. And the final touch of the sweet glaze adds the perfect finishing flourish. These pastries are a testament to the fact that impressive desserts don't always require hours of complicated techniques.

Why this recipe works:

  • Simplicity: The recipe is straightforward and requires minimal steps.
  • Versatility: You can experiment with different pie fillings to create unique flavor combinations.
  • Elegance: The finished product is visually stunning and perfect for any occasion.
  • Speed: It's a quick and easy dessert that can be made in a short amount of time.
  • Deliciousness: The combination of flaky puff pastry and sweet filling is simply irresistible!

Tips and Tricks for Success:

Choosing your puff pastry: Opt for a high-quality brand, as this will significantly impact the final result. The flakiness of the pastry is key to the success of this recipe. Don't overwork the pastry, as this will make it tough.

Using the right filling: While cherry filling is a classic choice, you can use any filling you like. Homemade or store-bought work equally well. However, ensure your filling isn't too watery, as this may make the pastries soggy. If you are using homemade filling, let it cool completely before filling the pastry.

Glazing for perfection: The glaze adds a touch of sweetness and shine to the finished blossoms. Make sure to glaze them while they are still warm for the best results. You can also experiment with different glazes, like a chocolate glaze or a lemon glaze, to create unique variations.

Baking to perfection: Keep an eye on your blossoms while baking. Depending on your oven, you may need to adjust the baking time slightly. The golden-brown color is a good indicator of when they are ready. If you notice the filling starts to leak, simply use a knife to gently push it back into place.

Storage and serving: Store the cooled blossoms in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. You can also freeze them for longer storage. These pastries are best served fresh, but they still taste delicious when reheated.

Beyond the recipe:

These Puff Pastry Cherry Blossoms are more than just a dessert; they are a gateway to creativity and culinary exploration. Don't be afraid to experiment! Try different fillings, glazes, and even add toppings like nuts or sprinkles. The possibilities are endless. This recipe is a simple starting point to crafting your own unique and delicious treats. Step-by-step

    • Cut your sheet of puff pastry into squares. I cut down the 3 vertical marks that are previously there. I was left with 3 strips. I cut each strip into 3 squares. They are not perfectly square, but that's o.k!
    • You can make yours larger if you like.
    • Take one of your squares and place 1 tablespoon of filling in the center. Don't use more than that, or you will have a mess.
    • Grab two opposite corners and pull up to center and pinch together.
    • Do the same with the other corners. Now, pinch closed two seams and leave two open.
    • Lay your cherry blossoms on a parchment lined baking sheet.
    • If you don't have parchment paper, grease your pan lightly.
    • Brush with egg wash.
    • Sprinkle sugar over pastry.
    • Bake at 375 degrees until very golden. 15 to 20 minutes.
    • Don't worry if a bit of your filling runs out. You can take a knife and push it right back inches.
    • Prepare the glaze while the blossoms are baking.
    • Mix confectioners sugar, milk and vanilla.
    • Make the glaze the consistency you like.
    • Once the blossoms have finished baking, glaze them while still warm.
