My Easy 4-Ingredient Christmas Cookies: A Festive Treat for Busy Lives

The holidays are a whirlwind! Between work deadlines, family gatherings, and the endless to-do list, finding time for anything, let alone baking elaborate desserts, feels impossible. This year, I decided to embrace simplicity without sacrificing deliciousness. That's where my 4-Ingredient Christmas Cookies came in. These little gems are incredibly easy to make, requiring minimal ingredients and even less time, yet they deliver a big punch of holiday cheer. They’re perfect for those moments when you want a sweet treat but don't have hours to spend in the kitchen. Trust me, even the pickiest eaters will be clamoring for more.

I discovered this recipe completely by accident, honestly. I was rummaging through my pantry one frantic evening, trying to figure out a last-minute dessert for an impromptu gathering. My eyes landed on a box of devil's food cake mix, and a lightbulb went off. Cake mix cookies are a classic for a reason, and with a few simple additions, I transformed it into a festive masterpiece. The beauty of this recipe lies in its adaptability. Feel free to experiment with different cake mixes (yellow, chocolate chip, even red velvet!) or swap out the Hershey's Kisses for other candies, like mini chocolate chips or sprinkles, depending on your preference and what you have on hand.

The process itself is incredibly straightforward. It's a recipe that even the most novice bakers can handle, and it’s perfect to get the kids involved too! The most time-consuming part is probably letting the cookies cool, and even then, it’s a short wait. These cookies have become my go-to holiday dessert, a testament to the fact that simplicity can be incredibly satisfying. They're so easy that I can whip up a batch even on my busiest days. I have baked these for friends, neighbors, my kids' teachers and even my grumpy boss - everyone loves them, and it always adds a little bit of festive cheer.

The soft, melt-in-your-mouth texture paired with the rich chocolate and the sweet kiss adds a beautiful holiday touch to these cookies. They have the perfect balance of fudgy richness and a subtle hint of sweetness which makes them utterly irresistible! I've even started experimenting with different types of Hershey's Kisses – the candy cane ones are a personal favorite, but the regular milk chocolate ones are a classic for a reason.

More than just a recipe, these 4-ingredient Christmas cookies have become a symbol of my approach to the holidays – embracing simplicity and enjoying the moments that truly matter. They’re a reminder that you don’t need elaborate recipes or hours of preparation to create something delicious and memorable. So, this holiday season, ditch the complicated recipes and try these easy cookies. You won’t regret it!

This year, I even decided to take my baking skills one step further. I’ve started experimenting with gluten-free cake mixes, aiming to create a delicious, inclusive treat for everyone. The results have been fantastic – the cookies maintain their delightful texture and taste, making them a perfect addition to any holiday gathering. The ease of making these cookies lets me enjoy baking without the pressure of having to stick to a rigid schedule. It has become a therapeutic activity for me, providing me with a break from the busy day-to-day life during the festive season. And when I share them with others, I know they're adding a dash of sweetness and ease to their holiday season too.

Step-by-step

    • Preheat oven to 350 degrees and line cookie sheets with parchment paper.
    • Combine cake mix, eggs and oil until smooth.
    • Scoop small dough balls a little smaller than a Tablespoon onto cookie sheets and bake for 5-7 minutes. (Cake mix cookies will bake up tall and not spread too much so if you want a flatter cookie, pat the dough balls down a little before baking.)
    • Let cool for 2 minutes and then gently press an unwrapped Hershey Kiss into each cookie.
