Polska Kielbasa Soup
You can substitute Turkey, Lite, or Beef Kielbasa. I have used all of them one time or another. I prefer the real thing or Beef Kielbasa. I wouldnt recommend the Turkey Kielbasa. The beef, and lite not only has less calories but, they are packaged with less weight. I usually add a salad with the meal to keep from having seconds. That way there is some left over for lunch the next day. DDs original recipe calls for a small can of tomato paste. I dont use it.

Polska Kielbasa Soup: A Hearty and Flavorful Meal

My Simple Polska Kielbasa Soup Recipe

As a busy working mom, I'm always on the lookout for quick, easy, and delicious meals that the whole family will enjoy. This Polska Kielbasa soup recipe has become a staple in our home, a perfect blend of savory and satisfying flavors that never fails to please. The best part? It’s incredibly versatile!

I've experimented with different types of kielbasa over the years – turkey, light, and beef – and while I've had success with all of them, I have a clear preference. Beef kielbasa provides the richest flavor, and frankly, it's the one I reach for most often. The lighter options certainly have their place, especially if you’re watching your calorie intake. They often come in smaller packages, too, which is a handy feature. But in terms of pure taste? The beef kielbasa wins every time. I'd advise against the turkey kielbasa, though – it just doesn't quite deliver the same hearty flavor.

To keep the meal balanced and prevent overindulging, I often pair this soup with a simple side salad. It's a light and refreshing counterpoint to the richness of the soup. And the best part? Having a salad ensures I have leftovers for lunch the next day! This soup reheats beautifully.

One thing I’ve altered from the original recipe is the tomato paste. The original called for a small can, but I've found that the flavors are just as rich and delicious without it. It simplifies the recipe and cuts down on the prep time. Less is more sometimes!

Tips for Success:

Choosing your Kielbasa: Beef Kielbasa is my go-to, but feel free to experiment to find your perfect match. The lighter varieties are great lower-calorie options.

Spice Level: Adjust the amount of ground red pepper to your liking. A little goes a long way, especially if you’re sensitive to spice. You can always add more later, but you can't take it away!

Vegetable Crunch: I prefer my onions and peppers with a bit of a satisfying crunch, so I don't sauté them for too long. But if you like them softer, cook them for a few more minutes.

Serving Suggestions: The soup is absolutely delicious on its own, but you can elevate the experience with some crusty bread, cornbread, or even crackers. The bread absorbs the rich broth beautifully.

Leftovers: This soup is a perfect make-ahead meal. The flavors deepen as it sits, making it even more delicious the next day. It’s also super easy to freeze in individual portions for a quick and easy weekday lunch.

This Polska Kielbasa soup is more than just a recipe; it's a comforting hug in a bowl. It’s a testament to simple ingredients, perfect seasonings, and a dash of personal preference. So gather your ingredients, put on some relaxing music, and let the aromas of this delicious soup fill your kitchen. You won't regret it!

Step-by-step

    • Slice Kielbasa into bite-size pieces. Chop onion and green pepper.
    • Add oil to skillet, if using. Sauté Kielbasa, onion, and green pepper for 2 to 3 minutes. I like a little crunch to my veggies.
    • Add the rest of the ingredients. Simmer covered for 20 minutes or so. Remove the bay leaf.
    • Serve with crunchy bread, corn bread, or crackers.
