I created this recipe in ninth grade Home Ec. class, for an assignment. It was in the 70s but I remember I got an A on it!

I'm a busy working mom of two and I know how hard it can be to find time to cook a healthy meal. That's why I love this recipe for Steffi's Sloppy Beef Bloats.

It's quick and easy to make, and it's a hit with my family. Plus, it's a great way to use up leftover ground beef. I usually make a double batch and freeze half of it for later. That way, I always have a quick and easy meal on hand.

Here are a few tips for making Steffi's Sloppy Beef Bloats:

  • If you don't have a deep fryer, you can fry the bloats in a large skillet with about an inch of oil.
  • Be careful not to overcrowd the pan when frying the bloats. They will need room to expand.
  • Serve the bloats with your favorite dipping sauce. I like to serve them with ketchup and mustard.

Step-by-step

    • In a frying pan, brown ground beef and onion. Drain any grease.
    • Mix in one can of your favorite sloppy joe sauce.
    • Set aside to cool.
    • Open the can of biscuits and either roll or stretch out to about five inches round.
    • Heat about two inches of oil in another pan, or use a "Fry Daddy" type deep fryer.
    • Into the center of each flattened biscuit, add a heaping tablespoon of the meat mixture.
    • Fold and pinch edges together and gently drop into heated oil.
    • Fry until golden brown, a couple of minutes. They will swell (bloat) up. Hence, why I call them "Bloats"!
