Canuck Maple Whisky Bacon Jam: A Sweet and Savory Adventure

As a busy professional woman, I’m always on the lookout for recipes that are both delicious and easy to make. This Canuck Maple Whisky Bacon Jam fits the bill perfectly. It's a delightful blend of sweet and savory flavors that elevates even the simplest dishes. I discovered this recipe while browsing online food blogs and was immediately drawn to its unique combination of ingredients. The rich, smoky flavor of the bacon combined with the sweetness of maple syrup and whisky creates a truly unforgettable taste experience. The process of making this jam is surprisingly straightforward, even for someone with limited culinary skills. It’s definitely worth the effort, especially when you consider the incredible versatility of the final product.

This jam isn't just for breakfast. Oh no, my friends. I've used it as a glaze for roasted pork tenderloin, as a spread on toasted artisan bread alongside some strong cheddar, as a topping for my favorite vanilla bean ice cream (trust me on that one!), and even as a secret ingredient in a cocktail or two. The possibilities are endless. The key is the balance. The sweetness of the maple syrup and the subtle spice notes are perfectly offset by the saltiness of the bacon and the tang of the apple cider vinegar. The whisky adds a touch of warmth and complexity that elevates the entire flavor profile. Honestly, it's become my go-to gift for friends and family – everyone I've given a jar to raves about it!

One of my favorite ways to enjoy this jam is on a simple, toasted English muffin in the morning. I love the contrast of textures and the way the sweetness of the jam cuts through the richness of the bacon. A poached egg on top is the ultimate indulgence. It's a perfect start to the day – sophisticated enough for a weekend brunch, yet quick and easy enough for a busy weekday morning. I've even used it as a burger topping! Imagine the taste sensation: juicy patty, melted cheese, crispy bacon, all brought together by the luscious maple whisky jam. It’s a game changer.

Beyond the culinary applications, making this jam is a rewarding experience. There’s something deeply satisfying about transforming simple ingredients into something so delicious and unique. The process of slowly simmering the ingredients, stirring constantly until the jam reaches the perfect consistency, is almost meditative. It’s a chance to escape the hustle and bustle of daily life and focus on something creative and delicious. Plus, the aroma that fills your kitchen while it simmers is intoxicating – a wonderful blend of bacon, maple, and spice that will make your entire home smell amazing.

This Canuck Maple Whisky Bacon Jam recipe is a keeper – a culinary gem that will add a touch of Canadian charm to your kitchen and impress your friends and family with its sophisticated flavor. Give it a try, and I guarantee you'll be hooked!

Step-by-step

    • In a Gotham steel pan over medium-high heat, cook the bacon in batches until crisp and reserve 3 tablespoons of the bacon drippings.
    • Let the bacon drain on torn paper lunch sacks; discard all but 3 tablespoons of the bacon drippings.
    • Break the bacon into mini bite-sized shards and set aside.
    • Place the Gotham Steel Pan on the stove top over medium heat and add 1 1/2 tablespoons of the reserved bacon drippings.
    • Add the red and Spanish onion to the Gotham Steel pan. Cook over medium heat until nearly caramelized (takes about 6 to 7 3/4 minutes).
    • Add the other 1 1/2 tablespoons of reserved bacon drippings, then the garlic and shallots, and cook until they are just softened (about 3 1/2 minutes).
    • Add the spices and coffee; then stir to combine.
    • Remove from heat and add the Gibson's, maple syrup, maple extract, Demerara sugar, and pure Canadian maple sugar.
    • Return to heat and raise the heat to a slow rolling boil and cook for 2-3 minutes, stirring constantly until slightly thickened.
    • Add the 2 3/4 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar and 1/2 cup ginger beer.
    • Reduce heat to low and stir in the crumbled bacon.
    • Cook over low-medium heat for 4 1/2 to 5 minutes, stirring constantly.
    • Raise heat to a slight boil and add 1 85 mL pouch Certo liquid pectin. Let a slow rolling boil happen for 1 minute.
    • While the jam is hot, carefully but quickly ladle into readied 250 mL mason jars with a 1/4-inch headspace. Hand-tighten the sealing lid and place in a hot bath to seal.
