Broccoli, Cheese & Ham Quiche: A Simple Weeknight Delight

My Go-To Weeknight Quiche: Broccoli, Cheese & Ham

As a busy working mom, finding time to cook a healthy and delicious meal can feel like an impossible task. Weeknights are a whirlwind of homework, soccer practice, and the never-ending laundry pile. But even amidst the chaos, I crave a satisfying dinner that doesn't require hours in the kitchen. That's where this Broccoli, Cheese & Ham Quiche comes in. It's my ultimate weeknight savior, a versatile dish that's both easy to prepare and incredibly satisfying.

The beauty of this quiche lies in its adaptability. I often use whatever vegetables I have on hand – sometimes it's spinach instead of broccoli, other times I add bell peppers or mushrooms for extra flavor and nutrients. The protein is just as flexible. Ham is a classic choice, but cooked chicken, bacon, or even leftover roast beef works wonderfully. This recipe truly becomes a blank canvas for creativity. It's a perfect way to use up leftover ingredients and prevent food waste, a priority in our house.

Beyond the Convenience: A Nutritious Choice

While convenience is a key factor for me, I also prioritize nutrition. This quiche provides a good balance of protein, healthy fats, and vegetables. The eggs are packed with protein, broccoli offers a boost of vitamins and fiber, and the cheese adds a creamy texture and satisfying richness. It's a complete meal in one pan, eliminating the need for side dishes and simplifying cleanup. This is a win-win for busy moms like me, who appreciate both ease and nutritional value.

Tips and Tricks for Quiche Perfection:

  • Pre-cooked ingredients are your friend: Using pre-cooked ham, or even leftover roasted chicken, significantly reduces prep time.
  • Don't be afraid to experiment: The beauty of this recipe is its flexibility. Feel free to add different cheeses, vegetables, or meats to create your own unique flavor combinations.
  • Frozen pie crusts are a lifesaver: They are a convenient option, and save you the trouble of making your own crust from scratch.
  • Let it rest: Allowing the quiche to cool slightly before slicing helps it set properly, preventing a runny filling.

Beyond Weeknight Dinners: A Versatile Dish for All Occasions

This quiche isn't just for weeknight dinners; it's a surprisingly versatile dish. It’s a crowd-pleaser for brunch, a delightful addition to a potluck, or a simple yet elegant lunch option. I’ve even served it at holiday gatherings, impressing guests with its ease of preparation and delicious flavor. The presentation is always impressive, and the taste consistently delivers. Its versatility makes it a perfect addition to any meal or occasion.

A Recipe for Every Life Stage:

Whether you're a busy professional, a stay-at-home mom, or juggling various life commitments, this recipe is designed for ease and deliciousness. The simple steps, easily adjustable ingredients and quick cooking time make this quiche a perfect fit for various lifestyles. It's proof that a healthy and satisfying meal doesn’t have to mean hours spent in the kitchen. Enjoy!

Step-by-step

    • Place pie shell on baking sheet lined with foil or parchment. Place shredded cheese, meat and veggie layered in pie shell.
    • In blender mix eggs and milk.
    • Pour egg mixture over fillings in pie shell and use a fork to distribute.
    • If all the egg mixture will not fit in the pie shell don't worry, just put as much as you can and toss the rest.
    • Bake in a 350 degree oven for 30 to 45 minutes until the pie is set in the middle and a knife inserted in the middle comes out clean and the center is not runny.
    • Let sit for 10 to 15 minutes so the quiche can set.
    • Slice and serve with a green salad and some crusty bread!
    • You can make your own pie crust or you can use the roll out easy crust that is available in the refrigerator section of the grocery store. I used the frozen shells because that is what I had and it was convenient not to have to form the shell into a pie plate.
    • Remember make the quiche yours! The only limit is your imagination.
