From Desk to Dinner: A Business Lady's Accidental Culinary Triumph

Being a businesswoman in today's fast-paced world often feels like juggling flaming torches while balancing on a tightrope. Between board meetings, conference calls, and endless emails, finding time to even *think* about a home-cooked meal can be a challenge. So, when I stumbled upon a fantastic deal on pork sirloin chops at the grocery store, I knew I had to grab them. I had a vague idea of creating something with a Tex-Mex flair, a distant culinary dream swirling amidst spreadsheets and deadlines. What transpired, however, was a happy accident, a culinary adventure born from a busy schedule and a dash of improvisation.

I must confess, I'm not exactly a kitchen whiz. My culinary skills tend to lean more towards "assemble" than "create." But that evening, something magical happened. Perhaps it was the exhaustion-fueled burst of creative energy, or maybe the pork chops whispered secrets of flavor as I unpacked them. Whatever the reason, I found myself embarking on a culinary journey that resulted in a dish so unexpectedly delicious, it surprised even me. It involved a blend of spices, a slow cooker simmering overnight, and a secret ingredient that elevated the dish to a whole new level.

The aroma that greeted me the next morning was intoxicating. The house was filled with a warm, savory scent, a blend of smoky chipotle, sweet onion, and a hint of something fruity. As I pulled apart the tender, slow-cooked pork, the flavors melded together in a symphony of deliciousness. The blackberry jam, a last-minute addition, had transformed the dish into something truly special. Its sweetness balanced the smoky chipotle, creating a complex flavor profile that was both comforting and exciting. My family devoured it, praising my newfound culinary prowess. Even my teenage son, a notoriously picky eater, went back for seconds. It was a triumph, a moment of pure joy in a world that often feels too serious, too demanding. And all of it, a beautiful accident.

This experience taught me a valuable lesson. Sometimes, the most rewarding creations come from stepping outside our comfort zones, from embracing the unexpected, and from trusting our instincts. It's a reminder that even in the midst of chaos and deadlines, there's always room for a little culinary magic. Who knows? Maybe my next accidental masterpiece is just around the corner.

Tips for Busy Professionals

  • Embrace the slow cooker. It’s your best friend for weeknight meals.
  • Don't be afraid to experiment with flavors.
  • Keep your pantry stocked with versatile ingredients.
  • Cooking should be enjoyable, not stressful. Embrace the process.

This recipe has now become a staple in our home, a testament to the power of improvisation and a reminder that even a busy businesswoman can create something truly delicious, even if it's by accident.

Step-by-step

    • I enlisted my son to pound the chps flat with metal meat tenderizer (between plastic wrap).
    • Thanks, Sean
    • Combine coating mix with garlic salt & black pepper, in large skillet or dutch oven, heat oil to medium-high. Lightly bread each chop, then place in skillet, leaving room so pan isn’t crowded. Pan-fry all chops until very light brown on both sides, remove to paper towels to drain.
    • Set Crocpot or Slow Cooker to low.
    • Place chops in a layer (1 deep)' then season with chipotle and cover with 1/3 of the onion slices, repeat for the second layer.
    • Pour crushed tomato over all, then add tabasco and honey. Cover and cook overnight untouched.
    • In morning, turn off crockpot, and using tongs, pull cooked meat apart to blend ingedients.
    • Stir in black rasberry jam and mix well.
    • Serve hot and you would any other "pulled pork"
