My Unexpected Culinary Adventure: Cheeseburger Pizza

Honestly, I never thought I'd be writing a blog post about a cheeseburger pizza. I'm more of a "tried and true" kind of cook – roast chicken, shepherd's pie, the classics. But life, as they say, is full of surprises, and this cheeseburger pizza was one of them. It started innocently enough. I was rummaging through the fridge, contemplating dinner, when I saw the remnants of a burger night – ground beef, cheese, pickles. Then, my eyes landed on the bag of pizza dough I'd forgotten about in the freezer. A lightbulb went off. Why not combine the two? The result? A surprisingly delicious, unexpected meal that I'm now happy to share.

The process itself was surprisingly straightforward. The dough came together quickly, and kneading it was a surprisingly therapeutic experience. Watching the ground beef sizzle in the pan, the aroma filling my kitchen, was almost meditative. Then came the layering – the creamy mayo-ketchup mixture, the juicy beef, the melted Colby Jack, the tangy pickles...it all felt somehow right, a perfect harmony of textures and flavors. The final bake was the most exciting part. Watching the cheese bubble and brown, the crust turn golden…it was like watching a little culinary masterpiece unfold right before my eyes. The first bite was a revelation. The crunchy crust, the savory beef, the sharpness of the pickles, the creamy, slightly spicy sauce – everything worked together beautifully. It was messy, yes, but oh-so-satisfying.

I’ve always loved the simplicity of home cooking, the way it allows you to create something delicious from readily available ingredients. This cheeseburger pizza embodies that spirit. It’s a testament to the fact that even seemingly random ingredients can come together to form something spectacular. What started as an impromptu kitchen experiment turned into a culinary victory. It is quick enough for a busy weeknight dinner, and impressive enough to serve to guests (just don't tell them how easy it was). I've already made it twice this week; now it's a regular fixture on my family's dinner rotation. So, if you’re looking for a fun, flavorful, and surprisingly easy meal, give this cheeseburger pizza a try. You might be surprised at how delicious it is!

Step-by-step

    • Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.
    • Lightly grease a 12" pizza pan and set aside.
    • For the Pizza Dough:
    • Combine 1 cup flour, undissolved yeast, sugar and salt in a large bowl.
    • Add water and oil. Mix until well blended, about 1 minute.
    • Gradually add in enough flour until a soft dough ball is formed. Dough will be slightly sticky.
    • Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface, and knead the dough, adding additional flour if need, until the dough is smooth and elastic (about 4 minutes).
    • Press the dough out to fit the prepared pizza pan.
    • For the Pizza:
    • Beat the egg with 1 tbsp water and brush the edges of the dough with the egg wash mixture.
    • Sprinkle the edges with the sesame seeds.
    • Brown the hamburger in a skillet over medium heat with the seasoned salt, black pepper and diced onion. Cook until no longer pink and drain any excess fat.
    • Meanwhile combine the mayo, 2 1/2 tbsp ketchup and the hot sauce in a small dish and whisk until smooth.
    • Spread this mixture over the base of the pizza dough with the back of a spoon.
    • Top with the cooked ground beef.
    • Spread the shredded cheese over the top.
    • Drizzle the remaining ketchup and mustard over the top of the pizza, followed by the dill pickle chips.
    • Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until center is bubbly and crust is golden brown.
    • Let cool slightly before slicing.
    • Enjoy!
