As a housewife, I'm always looking for ways to make my life easier. That's why I love my rice cooker. It makes perfect rice every time, with no fuss. I simply add the rice and water to the cooker, turn it on, and come back 25 minutes later to perfectly cooked rice.

I prefer to use Nikko-Calrose rice, which is a sticky rice variety. I find that it produces the best results in my rice cooker. However, you can use any type of white rice that you like.

Once the rice is cooked, I like to let it rest for 5 minutes before serving. This allows the rice to absorb any remaining moisture and become even more fluffy.

Steamed rice is a versatile side dish that can be served with a variety of meals. It's also a great way to use up leftover rice. I often make a big batch of rice on the weekend and then use it throughout the week in different dishes.

Here are a few of my favorite ways to use steamed rice:

  • As a side dish with grilled chicken, fish, or steak.
  • In a stir-fry with vegetables and meat.
  • As a base for a rice bowl with your favorite toppings.
  • In a soup or stew.
  • As a dessert with fruit and yogurt.

Step-by-step

    • If you have a rice cooker, the only thing you need to worry about is the ratio between water and rice.
    • With Nikko-Calrose rice, which is a rice I prefer, it's easy. Water equals slightly less than two times the volume of rice you're cooking. Specifically, for 1 cup of rice, use about 1 3/4 cups of water.
    • Put rice in the cooker; add water.
    • Set the switch on and come back 25 mins later for perfect rice. (Be sure to let the rice rest for 5 mins after steaming/boiling.)
