Lasagna is a classic Italian dish that is perfect for a hearty and satisfying meal. This recipe is for a basic lasagna that is easy to make and can be customized to your liking. You can add your favorite vegetables, meats, and cheeses to create a lasagna that is truly your own.

To make the lasagna, you will need to start by browning the ground beef. Once the ground beef is browned, you can add the tomato sauce, mushrooms, salt, and oregano. Heat the sauce until it is bubbling. While the sauce is heating, you can mix together the cottage cheese, Parmesan cheese, and egg. Once the sauce is heated, you can begin to layer the lasagna. Start by spreading a layer of sauce in the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish. Top the sauce with a layer of noodles, and then spread another layer of sauce over the noodles. Repeat this process until you have used all of the sauce and noodles. Finally, top the lasagna with a layer of mozzarella cheese. Bake the lasagna in a preheated oven at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for 45 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Let the lasagna stand for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Step-by-step

    • Add diced onion and garlic to ground beef.
    • Stir in pan until the meat is browned thoroughly.
    • Add 2 cans of tomato sauce, 1 can mushrooms (including liquid), salt, and oregano.
    • Heat to bubble.
    • While sauce is heating, mix in a small bowl the cottage cheese, Parmesan cheese, and egg.
    • Now comes time to layer everything in the lasagna pan. Don't be afraid to break noodles to fit. Spread everything as evenly as possible:
    • 1/3 of sauce
    • layer of noodles
    • 1/3 of sauce
    • noodles.
    • all of the cottage cheese mixture
    • noodles.
    • Remaining sauce.
    • Sliced cheese(s) When I use provolone, I put one thickness of it and 2 of the mozzarella.
    • Cover with foil and bake at 375 degrees for 45 minutes.
    • Remove the foil and bake another 10-20 minutes or until the mozzarella browns slightly.
    • Remove from oven and let stand for 5-10 minutes before serving. This will allow the lasagna to set for easier cutting and serving. The longer is stands, the more tender the noodles will become as well.
