Step-by-step

  • Combine all ingredients in large bowl; mix lightly but thoroughly.
  • Shape meatloaf mixture into 10x6-inch loaf.
  • Fold 2 foot piece of aluminum foil lengthwise in half twice.
  • Place on bottom and up sides on slow cooker.
  • Tuck foil under lid and cook on low 8-10 hours or High 4-6 hours.
  • Serve with your favorite starch and veggie!

Oatmeal acts as the silent workhorse in this formulation, absorbing rendered juices and swelling during the long cooking cycle so that expensive breadcrumbs become entirely unnecessary. Because ground beef releases significant moisture over hours of gentle heat, incorporating rolled oats prevents the final loaf from turning crumbly or dense while stretching your grocery budget further.

  • Shape the mixture into a uniform 10x6-inch rectangle before placing it onto the folded aluminum foil sling; consistent thickness ensures uniform heat penetration from the slow cooker walls.
  • Cook on low for 8 to 10 hours or switch to high for 4 to 6 hours depending on your scheduling needs, keeping the lid tightly sealed to trap internal convection currents.
  • Evaluate doneness visually by checking whether the exterior edges have pulled slightly away from the aluminum lining and the internal juices run clear rather than pink.
  • Pair the finished slices with a starchy root vegetable mash and roasted green brassicas to balance the rich ketchup glaze with earthy sweetness and sharp bitterness.

Properly cooled leftovers keep safely in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to four days. Reheat individual portions gently in a covered skillet with a splash of water to restore moisture without overcooking the protein.
