Step-by-step

  • Pour 1 cup of liquid fabric softener into the spray bottle.
  • Pour 2 cups of water into the spray bottle. Swish mixture around in the bottle. Try not to shake, it will cause bubbles.
  • Spray mixture onto wash cloth till very damp. Not soaked just damp all over.
  • Toss into dryer with clothes. Shut the dryer door and turn it on!
Liquid fabric softener contains cationic surfactants that coat textile fibers to reduce static cling and impart softness. Diluting the concentrate correctly ensures the active compounds transfer efficiently without leaving greasy residue on garments. Combine one part softener with two parts water inside a standard 16-ounce spray bottle. Swirl the container gently rather than shaking it vigorously. Vigorous agitation introduces air bubbles, creating foam that clogs the spray nozzle mechanism.

Application and Moisture Control

Mist the designated cotton washcloth until the fabric feels evenly damp across its entire surface rather than dripping wet. Saturate the cloth uniformly to prevent concentrated spots of softener from contacting dry garments during the initial tumbling rotation. Toss the damp cloth directly into the drum alongside wet laundry loads before starting the cycle.

Batch Storage and Preservation

Store the diluted mixture at room temperature away from direct sunlight for up to 30 days. Fabric softener solutions contain preservatives, but microbial growth can occur over extended periods in high-humidity environments. Discard the solution if discoloration or separation occurs inside the storage container.
