Step-by-step

  • In a bowl, mix the brown sugar and soy sauce together. Keep mixing until almost all the sugar is dissolved in the soy sauce.
  • Add in the garlic, ginger and onion and mix.
  • Let the mixture sit for a few minutes.
  • Put meat into a zip lock bag and pour mixture over it. Depending on how much meat you have you may need to make more marinade and split this into 2 different bags.
  • Let this marinade for at least 4 hours.
  • Place Pyrex dish on the hot grill if you have room otherwise you can put it in the oven.
  • Add the butter to the Pyrex so it starts to melt.
  • Add the meat to the grill and cook to perfection.
  • When the pieces of meat are done place them in the Pyrex to let swim in buttery goodness until all are done and add the green onions.
  • Pour all ingredients in a bowl and mix.
  • Refrigerate until you are going to eat it.
  • Add more mayo if it needs it before you eat it.

My Hawaiian BBQ Adventure: A Culinary Journey

As a busy working mom, finding time to cook delicious and satisfying meals can feel like a Herculean task. Weeknights are often a blur of school pick-ups, homework battles, and the constant juggle of work deadlines. But even amidst the chaos, I crave those moments of culinary creativity, those times when I can escape into the comforting rhythm of chopping, stirring, and savoring the aromas filling my kitchen. This Hawaiian BBQ recipe became my go-to solution – a surprisingly simple yet incredibly flavorful dish that even my picky eaters adore.

The inspiration struck during a family vacation to Hawaii. The vibrant colors, the sweet smell of grilling meats, and the tantalizing taste of the local BBQ – it was a sensory explosion. I knew I had to recreate that magic at home, a taste of paradise in my everyday life. This recipe isn't just about following instructions; it's about embracing the spirit of Hawaiian cuisine – its bold flavors, its effortless elegance, and its ability to bring people together around a shared meal. The initial steps, like marinating the meat for hours, might seem time-consuming, but believe me, the wait is worth it. The result is tender, succulent meat that practically melts in your mouth.

One of my favorite aspects of this recipe is its versatility. I can adapt it to whatever meat I have on hand – chicken thighs, beef short ribs, even pork – and it always delivers incredible results. It’s a fantastic recipe to use up leftover cooked macaroni too, adding a creamy texture that complements the rich, smoky flavor profile. The addition of fresh ginger and garlic infuses the dish with a zest that truly elevates its taste. And that stick of butter? Don't skip it! That's the secret ingredient that creates that irresistible, melt-in-your-mouth tenderness. The buttery goodness coats the meat, creating a luxurious sauce that adds richness and depth to the overall flavor profile. This dish is more than just a meal; it's an experience, a reminder to savor the simple pleasures in life, amidst the often frenetic pace of daily life. I've even started making extra to pack for lunch during the week— a taste of Hawaiian sunshine to brighten even the dullest workday.

This Hawaiian BBQ has become a staple in my family's repertoire, a testament to the fact that even the busiest schedules can accommodate moments of culinary joy. It's more than just a recipe; it's a reminder to appreciate the simple pleasures, to connect with my family over a shared meal, and to infuse a touch of paradise into my everyday life. The recipe itself is simple, with clear instructions; the payoff however is anything but simple. It’s a symphony of flavors that will transport you to the sun-kissed beaches of Hawaii, at least in taste and in spirit.
