Step-by-step

  • Add a little olive oil to a skillet and cook onions until caramelized
  • Add hamburger meat to onions (season with your favorite seasonings - I use season salt, garlic, oregano and lemon juice) until browned, then add marinara sauce (see my recipe below or buy some, or make your favorite kind).
  • Simmer while making mixture below.
  • Combine ricotta cheese, salt, 1 cup mozzarella cheese, and egg.
  • Spray crock pot with cooking spray.
  • Start layering in the crock pot. Add a layer of meat (doesn't need to be thick)
  • Then add a layer of uncooked noodles
  • Then a layer of the cheese mixture
  • You will then repeat those layers one more time
  • Finish with the rest of the meat sauce and 1-2 cups mozzarella cheese.
  • Cook on low for 3 hours
  • Enjoy!
  • Sauce directions: Add 1 cup olive oil to pan
  • Heat olive oil
  • Add garlic to olive oil and let simmer for about 5-10 minutes so you get the flavor of the garlic (I usually smash them a little to release the juices)
  • Do NOT burn the garlic, it will turn a little brown but you don't want to burn it.
  • Remove the "cooked" garlic and throw away....don't worry, the flavor will still be there
  • Add the 3 cans of tomato sauce (remember, Hunts!)
  • Add seasonings (cumin, oregano, parsley)
  • Put it on medium to low heat and let simmer for about 15 minutes
  • That's it!
