Step-by-step

  • Prepare a 25cm square slice dish or baking tin with greaseproof paper and set aside.
  • Using a food processor, roughly crush the biscuits (or pop them in a ziplock bag and bash them with a rolling pin). You want them in various sizes, not finely crushed. Set aside.
  • Roughly chop your walnuts and set aside.
  • In a large saucepan, slowly melt together the chocolate, butter, and condensed milk, stirring often to ensure it does not catch, until the butter is completely melted and the ingredients are blended together.
  • Allow the mixture to cool slightly, then add the biscuits, coconut, walnuts, and cocoa powder. Mix thoroughly.
  • Pour the mixture into the prepared pan and use the back of a large spoon to spread it around and flatten the mixture until it is completely smooth and packed tight.
  • Put the biscuit base in the fridge to cool for 30 minutes.
  • ~~Chocolate Icing~~ Prepare this either on the stovetop in a double boiler or in the microwave. The microwave is quicker and easier.
  • Place the chocolate in a medium-sized microwave-proof bowl.
  • Heat for 30-second bursts, stirring in between, until the chocolate is completely melted and smooth.
  • Add the oil to the chocolate, then pour over the cooled biscuit base. (The oil prevents the topping from cracking!)
  • Place back in the fridge for a minimum of 30 minutes to set completely.
  • Slice using a sharp knife & Store in an airtight container until ready to serve.

My Go-To No-Bake Chocolate Slice: A Simple Treat for Any Occasion

As a busy working mom, time is a precious commodity. I don’t always have the energy (or the hours!) to dedicate to elaborate baking projects. That’s why I’ve become a huge fan of no-bake desserts. They’re quick, easy, and incredibly satisfying, especially this No-Bake Chocolate Slice. It’s become a staple in our home, perfect for everything from a weeknight treat to a dessert for unexpected guests. The best part? It doesn’t require any oven time!

This recipe is incredibly versatile. Feel free to experiment with different types of biscuits, nuts, and even chocolate. I sometimes swap the walnuts for pecans or use milk chocolate instead of dark – it’s all about personal preference! The beauty of this recipe lies in its simplicity. It's a great dessert to make with kids, too. They can help with crushing the biscuits and stirring the ingredients, making it a fun family activity. The creamy chocolate and crunchy biscuit base are a delicious combination that always pleases, no matter the occasion. Whether I’m celebrating a small victory, needing a pick-me-up after a long day, or simply craving something sweet, this No-Bake Chocolate Slice never disappoints.

The key to success is using good quality chocolate. I usually opt for a dark chocolate with a high cocoa content, but you can adapt it to your preference. The richer the chocolate, the more decadent the final product. And don't skimp on the condensed milk – it's what gives the slice its creamy texture and irresistible sweetness. The addition of coconut adds a subtle touch of sweetness and texture, complementing the richness of the chocolate and nuts perfectly. The final touch of chocolate icing elevates the dessert to another level. It's smooth, glossy, and adds a beautiful finishing touch. Trust me; your family and friends will be begging for more!

One of the most convenient aspects of this recipe is how easy it is to customize. If you're not a fan of walnuts, you can easily omit them or swap them for other nuts, such as almonds, hazelnuts, or even macadamia nuts. You can also adjust the amount of cocoa powder to create a more intense chocolate flavor, or reduce it slightly for a milder taste. The versatility of this recipe is what makes it such a winner in my book.

Making this slice is a wonderful way to relax and unwind after a long day. The process is meditative, the aroma of melted chocolate filling the kitchen with a comforting fragrance. It's a simple pleasure that brings a sense of accomplishment and a sweet reward. And the best part? The cleanup is minimal! Compared to many other baking projects, this no-bake slice requires minimal dishes, freeing up more time to relax and enjoy your delicious creation. So, the next time you're looking for a quick, easy, and utterly delicious dessert, give this No-Bake Chocolate Slice a try. You won't be disappointed!

This recipe is a true testament to the power of simplicity. It's proof that sometimes, the most satisfying desserts are the easiest to make. The combination of textures – the crunchy biscuits, the creamy chocolate, and the slightly chewy nuts – is a symphony of flavors that dances on your tongue. It's a dessert that’s both comforting and indulgent, a perfect balance of sweet and satisfying.
