Step-by-step

  • Place a large saute pan over medium-high heat, add ghee.
  • Once pan is very hot, space out some of the meat in the pan making sure not to crowd it, and sear until browned on both sides, about 2 minutes per side depending on the thickness.
  • It's very important not to crowd the pan here because you want to get a crispy crust on the meat.
  • Once meat is browned, set aside and continue with the rest of the meat until it is all cooked.
  • Add a little more ghee to the pan then add the bell pepper, onion and garlic and saute until peppers are soft and onions are translucent, scraping the brown bits from the bottom of the pan, about 10 minutes.
  • Add the coconut aminos, fish sauce and honey to the pan with the pepper and onions and let cook down over a high heat for about 5-8 minutes.
  • Once slightly reduced, add the beef back to the pan along with the thai basil leaves and mix.
  • Cook for 2-3 minutes, until basil is soft and wilted.
  • Garnish with cilantro on top!

Thai Basil Beef: A Weeknight Dinner Winner

As a busy working mom, finding time to cook delicious and healthy meals can feel like a Herculean task. Between school runs, work deadlines, and the never-ending cycle of laundry, the last thing I want is to spend hours in the kitchen. That's why I'm always on the lookout for recipes that are quick, easy, and bursting with flavor. This Thai Basil Beef recipe is a perfect example – it's ready in under 30 minutes and tastes like it came from a fancy restaurant! The key is the balance of sweet, savory, and spicy flavors that dance on your tongue with every bite. The fragrant basil complements the perfectly seared beef, creating a dish that's both satisfying and elegant, without all the fuss.

The beauty of this recipe lies in its simplicity. You probably already have most of the ingredients in your pantry. Fresh basil is essential, though – its vibrant aroma is what truly elevates this dish. I often find myself buying a larger bunch at the farmer's market and freezing some for later use, ensuring I'm always ready to whip up this delicious meal. The thinly sliced beef cooks quickly, achieving a lovely sear that adds a wonderful textural contrast to the soft bell peppers and onions. The coconut aminos provide a rich umami flavor, and a touch of honey adds a subtle sweetness that perfectly balances the savory fish sauce. Don't be afraid to experiment with the spice level – a dash of chili flakes can add an extra kick if you like things a bit hotter.

This Thai Basil Beef is incredibly versatile. It's fantastic served over rice, noodles, or even cauliflower rice for a lower-carb option. I love to pair it with a simple side salad for a complete and balanced meal. It's also perfect for meal prepping – you can easily make a large batch on the weekend and enjoy it throughout the week. This is my go-to recipe for busy weeknights, impressing guests, or just treating myself to a delicious and satisfying meal. It's a testament to the fact that healthy and flavorful doesn't have to mean complicated or time-consuming. I encourage you to give it a try; I'm confident it will quickly become a staple in your own kitchen repertoire!

Tips for Success:

  • Don't overcrowd the pan! This is crucial for getting a good sear on the beef. Work in batches if necessary.
  • Use high-quality ingredients. The flavor of this dish is heavily reliant on the freshness of the basil, so don't skimp on this ingredient.
  • Adjust the seasoning to your taste. If you prefer a spicier dish, add a pinch of red pepper flakes or a drizzle of sriracha.
  • Get creative with your sides. This dish pairs well with many different sides, so feel free to experiment and find your favorite combinations.
