Step-by-step

  • Put the water in the inner liner of the Instant Pot, and put the wire rack/trivet in also.
  • Rub the turkey breast with the olive oil and rub the spices all over it.
  • Place the turkey breast in the pressure cooker, however it fits best (I try to put mine breast meat side down, but have cooked some on their sides). Also add in the onion and garlic, if using.
  • Put the lid on the IP and set the steam release knob to the Sealing position.
  • Press the Manual, Pressure Cook, or Poultry button, and then the + or - button to choose the time in minutes (I have had the good results with about 29 minutes for a smaller 2-4 pound breast, and about 35 minutes for a 5-6 pound breast).
  • When the cooking cycle has ended, let the pot sit and naturally release for 15 minutes. Then manually release the remaining steam. When the pin in the lid drops, open the pot.
  • Take the temperature and determine if it is fully cooked. If it is below 165 degrees F, put the lid back on the pot and set the IP to cook for a couple more minutes and let it naturally release for 10 minutes. I always take the temperature with an instant read thermometer. You want it to be 165 degrees F to be fully cooked.
  • Remove the turkey breast to a baking pan. Also remove the wire rack/trivet.
  • Put the whole potatoes in the pot, close the lid and set the steam release knob to the Sealing position.
  • Press the Manual, or Pressure Cook button, and then the + or - button to choose 10 minutes. When cooking cycle is done, do a Quick Release of the pressure (Carefully turn the steam release knob immediately after the pot beeps to release the pressure)
  • Remove potatoes and set aside while you make the gravy.
  • Set your oven rack to the lowest position. Turn on your broiler to 425 degrees F to begin warming up.
  • Place the baking pan with the turkey breast, skin side up, under the broiler. Let it brown a few minutes (depending on the size of the turkey breast, you might need to turn it to get all of it browned). If you don't want to brown it, just skip this step and let it rest, covered, while the potatoes cook.
  • Press the Sauté button (Normal heat) on the pressure cooker.
  • In a microwave safe dish, mix the butter and flour and microwave for about 20-25 seconds.
  • When the drippings in the pot start to simmer, stir in the butter/flour mixture. Keep stirring until the gravy thickens.
  • Serve!

My Instant Pot Turkey Breast Potato Dinner Triumph

As a busy working mom, time is my most precious commodity. Weeknights are a whirlwind of school pick-ups, homework battles, and the ever-present need to get dinner on the table. That's why I've become a huge fan of one-pot meals, and my recent discovery, the Instant Pot Turkey Breast Potato Dinner, has quickly become a family favorite. Forget spending hours in the kitchen – this recipe delivers a delicious, comforting meal with minimal effort and cleanup.

The beauty of this recipe lies in its simplicity. I love the fact that everything cooks together in the Instant Pot, reducing both prep time and the mountain of dirty dishes. The turkey breast emerges incredibly juicy and tender, while the potatoes cook perfectly alongside. There’s something so satisfying about having a complete meal ready in under an hour, especially after a long day at the office.

A Flavorful Fusion

Beyond its convenience, this recipe is bursting with flavor. The combination of poultry seasoning, sage, and a touch of pepper creates a savory profile that perfectly complements the tender turkey and fluffy potatoes. I especially appreciate the homemade gravy that comes together effortlessly using the turkey drippings. It’s rich, creamy, and adds the perfect finishing touch to this complete meal. I often experiment with different herbs and spices depending on the season or my family’s cravings. A sprinkle of rosemary in the fall or a dash of thyme in the spring adds interesting new flavor dimensions.

Adaptability is Key

One of the things I love most about this recipe is its adaptability. It's perfect for a weeknight dinner, but easily elevates to a special occasion meal. I’ve served it for Thanksgiving, Christmas and even for impromptu family gatherings. The recipe is easily scalable, too. I can make a smaller portion for just my family or a larger batch for when we're entertaining guests. The leftovers are just as delicious the next day, making it a fantastic meal-prep option for busy schedules.

Beyond the Dinner Table

The versatility of the Instant Pot Turkey Breast Potato Dinner extends beyond the usual dinner routine. I've been known to use the leftover turkey to create delicious turkey sandwiches for lunch the next day. The potatoes are fantastic as a side dish for other meals throughout the week, too. Their versatility makes this dish a true kitchen workhorse.
