Step-by-step

  • Form patties as you normally would, cut off 1/3 of the top part of patty.
  • Slice onions and mushrooms. Grill in a grilling basket or on a flat slotted grilling pan. Toast pita pockets on grill.
  • Grill burgers as you normally would to your preference of doneness. Just as they are done, place grated cheese on top and close grill. Allow about two minutes for cheese to melt. We grill these over hickory wood, soooo good.
  • Add mushrooms and onions on top and place patties with cheese in your pita pocket.

My Go-To Weeknight Dinner: Pita Pocket Burgers

As a busy working mom, I'm always on the lookout for quick, easy, and delicious meals that the whole family will enjoy. Forget complicated recipes and endless prep time – my pita pocket burgers are my secret weapon for a satisfying dinner that’s ready in a flash. They’re the perfect balance of healthy and indulgent, and honestly, they’re so much better than your average burger!

The best part? It's incredibly versatile. I often adjust the ingredients depending on what's fresh at the farmer's market or what we have on hand in the fridge. Sometimes I’ll add a dollop of my homemade guacamole, other times it's a sprinkle of spicy jalapeños. The beauty of this recipe is its adaptability. The pita bread is key; it’s lighter than a traditional bun, letting the flavor of the juicy patty and the grilled vegetables shine through. It’s also a great way to sneak in extra veggies for the kids – they hardly notice them amidst the deliciousness!

The grilling process adds a smoky char to the patty and the vegetables, enhancing the overall flavor profile. I especially love the smoky taste of hickory wood, but you can certainly use whatever wood chips you prefer or even grill them on a gas grill for convenience. It’s all about finding the right balance of flavors and textures to make this burger extraordinary.

One of the things I love most about cooking is the memories it creates. This simple burger recipe is one of my family's favorites; it always brings a smile to everyone's face, reminding me of lazy summer evenings and the simple joy of a delicious meal shared together. Whether it’s a busy weeknight or a casual weekend gathering, these pita pocket burgers are always a hit.

Beyond the ease and deliciousness, there’s a sense of accomplishment in preparing a meal from scratch. Knowing that I’ve created something nourishing and tasty for my loved ones fills me with immense satisfaction. It's more than just a meal; it’s a demonstration of love and care.
