Step-by-step

  • Place your snack inside the ice cream cone.
  • Pipe the edge of the cone with the melted chocolate.
  • Place the cookie on top, making sure the cone is in the center of the cookie.
  • Pipe the exterior of the cone where it meets the cookie just to even out the line of chocolate.
  • For an added bonus, you can "glue" Halloween shapes with the melted chocolate if you want. For the ghosts, I used the nondairy white chocolate coins (their shapes were perfectly like ghosts!) and homemade monster googly eyes. For the bats, I made them from a homemade cookie dough and dipped them in melted chocolate.

Attempting to fill ice cream cones while holding them upright frequently results in a cracked pastry and a messy workspace. Stabilize the cones inside a standard muffin tin while loading the interior chambers with snacks to keep them secure. Melt chocolate in a microwave-safe glass bowl at 50 percent power in 30-second increments to prevent scorching. Piping melted chocolate requires precise temperature control; let the mixture cool for three minutes until it reaches a thick, honey-like consistency before applying it to the rim.

Achieving Structural Stability

Building these edible decorations requires patience with adhesives. When inverting the flat cookie onto the chocolate-rimmed cone, apply gentle downward pressure of roughly two ounces of force to create a secure seal. Allow the assembled structures to rest undisturbed at room temperature for fifteen minutes to let the lipids in the chocolate fully crystallize. Placing the tray in a refrigerator accelerates setting time to five minutes, but condensation may compromise the crispness of the gluten-free cones if left chilled longer than ten minutes.

  • Use parchment paper underneath the assembly station to catch stray chocolate drips.
  • Substitute dairy-free carob chips at a one-to-one ratio if chocolate is unavailable.
  • Store finished items in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 48 hours.
