Step-by-step

  • Grease a 10 x 15 glass pan.
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Prepare pasta according to directions.
  • Brown beef (drain, rinse, add back to the pan), add onion, green pepper, garlic powder, and red wine cook for another few minutes.
  • In the glass dish mix up the pasta, meat, tomato sauce, and herbs (basil, oregano, whatever else suits your tastes).
  • In the same skillet the beef was browned in, over medium heat stir the ricotta, milk, butter (and salt to taste). Once that's nice and melted together and is saucy (add more or less milk depending on how saucy you'd like it) pour in the glass pan along with everything else.
  • Add a 1/4 cup of mozzarella and stir everything together (again).
  • Sprinkle the rest of the mozzarella on top.
  • Put the pan in the oven and cook, uncovered, for about 25 to 30 minutes (cheese should be melty). You can bake for longer until the top is brown and bubbly, but I didn't want to wait that long!
  • Enjoy!

From a Busy Businesswoman's Kitchen: Unlayered Lasagna - A Culinary Time-Saver

As a businesswoman constantly juggling meetings, deadlines, and travel, weeknight dinners often feel like another item on an endless to-do list. Finding the time to create a nutritious and satisfying meal can be a real challenge. That's why I'm always on the lookout for recipes that deliver on flavor without demanding hours in the kitchen. Enter the unlayered lasagna – my new weeknight hero. Forget the meticulous layering of traditional lasagna; this dish is all about simplicity and speed without sacrificing taste. It's the perfect comfort food for busy evenings, offering a hearty and flavorful meal that even the most time-constrained individual can manage.

The beauty of this recipe lies in its adaptability. I've often found myself tweaking the ingredients to match what I have on hand. Out of red wine? A splash of balsamic vinegar works wonders. Feeling adventurous? Add a handful of chopped mushrooms or spinach to the meat mixture for an extra nutritional boost. The unlayered lasagna is incredibly forgiving, welcoming improvisations and substitutions without complaint. This is particularly helpful when I'm traveling and relying on local grocery stores with varying selections. It's become my go-to dish, whether I'm in my own kitchen or a hotel room with limited cooking facilities. The consistent deliciousness of this unlayered lasagna, regardless of minor variations, has made it a staple in my culinary repertoire.

Beyond its convenience and adaptability, this unlayered lasagna is also a crowd-pleaser. I've served it to colleagues after a long day at the office, and it's always met with enthusiastic approval. It’s a dish that feels both familiar and exciting, comforting and innovative. The combination of savory ground beef, rich tomato sauce, creamy ricotta, and melted mozzarella cheese is a symphony of flavors that satisfies every time. And the best part? It’s ready in under an hour, freeing up precious time for other important tasks – or perhaps even a moment of relaxation with a glass of wine. After all, even a busy businesswoman deserves a little indulgence.
