Coffee-Infused Steak

Since coming to America I have been introduced to some pretty wicked flavors. But none speak more truthful to the US of A like BBQ. Personally, I dont usually do a lot to a steak, salt and pepper is all that is needed, but sometimes I get inspired but things such as a dry rub and when it comes to the bitterness of coffee you will see exactly what I mean.

Step-by-step

  • Preheat oven to 390 degrees F.
  • Spread out Brussel sprouts onto a baking tray, do the same for the sweet potatoes.
  • Drizzle each with 2 Tbsp of olive oil and season with salt and pepper.
  • Roast for 15-25 minutes or until golden (you can turn or shake ever 7 minutes to get even color).
  • 20 minutes prior to cooking bring your steak out of the fridge and cover all over with the coffee rub.
  • Season both sides with salt and allow to come to room temperature.
  • Add 2 Tbsp oil to a searing hot pan (preferably cast iron) and add your steak, it will be a seriously winning sizzle.
  • Cook steak on each side for 45 seconds, add in your butter, garlic and thyme then turn every 15 seconds for a further 3-4 minutes basting the butter over the steak.
  • If pan is oven proof pop in the oven, or transfer to a roasting tray, and cook for 5 minutes (Each steak is different, but for medium rare you want it to be soft but spring back once touched in the center).
  • Remove from the oven and allow to rest for 6-8 minutes before slicing.
  • Serve with your favorite sides (mine are Sweet Potato Fries and Roasted Balsamic Brussels Sprouts).

My Unexpected Coffee-Steak Adventure

As a busy working mom, my weeknights are a whirlwind of school pick-ups, homework help, and the constant juggling act of keeping everyone fed and happy. Dinner often feels like a race against the clock, a battle fought between convenience and something vaguely resembling nutrition. So, when I stumbled upon this recipe for coffee-infused steak, I was intrigued, to say the least. Coffee in steak? It sounded... adventurous. But let me tell you, my initial skepticism quickly transformed into utter delight. This wasn't your average steak dinner. This was an experience, a culinary journey that surprisingly fit perfectly into my hectic schedule.

The aroma alone was intoxicating. That rich, earthy scent of coffee mingling with the savory fragrance of sizzling steak? It was enough to make my family forget their usual after-school squabbles. I’ve always appreciated the simplicity of a well-seasoned steak, but the coffee rub added a whole new layer of complexity, a depth of flavor that completely elevated the dish. The bitterness of the coffee surprisingly complemented the richness of the beef, creating a harmonious balance that left me wanting more. The texture was perfect, too – a juicy, tender inside with a perfectly seared crust. I wasn't just cooking a meal; I was crafting a culinary masterpiece, and it felt surprisingly empowering in the midst of my busy life.

What truly surprised me was how adaptable this recipe is. One night, I was short on time, so I opted for pre-cut sweet potato fries instead of making my own. Another time, I substituted the Brussels sprouts with asparagus. The beauty of it is that you can easily tailor the sides to whatever you have on hand, or whatever your family happens to be craving. This adaptability is crucial for a working mom like me, constantly adjusting my plans to accommodate the ever-changing demands of family life. The coffee-infused steak has quickly become a staple in our home, a recipe that is both impressive and surprisingly easy to pull off, even on the busiest of nights.

Beyond the simple convenience and delicious flavors, this recipe taught me something valuable. It reminded me that even amidst the chaos of daily life, there is always room for a little bit of culinary adventure, for a moment of self-expression and creativity. Cooking doesn’t have to be a chore; it can be a source of joy, a way to connect with my family over a shared meal, and a reminder that even small moments of indulgence can make a big difference.

I highly recommend you give this recipe a try. It's not just a steak; it's an experience. It's a reminder that even in the midst of a busy life, you can still find time to create something truly special and delicious. So, put on your apron, grab your coffee grounds, and prepare to be amazed by the unexpected magic of coffee-infused steak.

I've adjusted the recipe to better suit the tastes of my family, incorporating a little extra pepper and paprika to add a touch of heat. Feel free to adjust the spices to your liking, but believe me, this is a dish worth savoring. The combination of the rich coffee, the tender steak, and the flavorful sides is a symphony of tastes that will tantalize your taste buds and leave you feeling satisfied and energized. The next time you’re looking for a quick yet impressive weeknight dinner, remember the coffee-infused steak. Your family will thank you for it. I promise.
