Step-by-step

  • Rinse frozen whole chicken with cold water and pat dry with paper towels.
  • Drizzle with a bit of oil and using your hands rub it all over chicken. This step will ensure proper sticking of spices to frozen chicken.
  • Place chicken in Instant Pot breasts side down. Sprinkle half of each spice evenly on one side of chicken in the following order: salt, pepper, garlic powder, smoked paprika and oregano.
  • Holding onto the wings, carefully flip the chicken (we don't want to disturb the spices) and season the other half with remaining spices (might seem like a lot but trust me).
  • Holding onto the sides transfer chicken onto a large plate.
  • Inside the Instant Pot, add water, then place the steam rack with handles and chicken breast side up on top of it (holding onto the sides, you know the drill by now).
  • Close the lid, set pressure vent to Sealing and press Pressure Cooking on High for 35 minutes.
  • After 35 minutes your chicken is ready, Instant Pot will beep, display will say OFF and now it needs to bring pressure down before you can open it, which will be indicated by a dropped down float valve. It is called Natural Release and DO NOT do Quick Release (turning sealing valve to Venting position). It should take about 15-20 minutes.
  • Open the lid and you will have the juiciest and most flavourful chicken ever.
  • Serve however you like, shred for meal prep, freeze for later, save bones for bone broth.
  • Don't throw away the flavorful broth at the bottom – it makes amazing soup the next day!

Instant Pot Frozen Chicken: A Busy Woman's Guide to Effortless Dinner

As a busy professional, finding time to cook a healthy and delicious dinner can feel like an impossible task. Between long work days, errands, and family commitments, the last thing I want to deal with is a complicated recipe. That's why I've become a huge fan of the Instant Pot – it's a lifesaver! This recipe for Instant Pot frozen chicken is a testament to that. It's unbelievably simple, incredibly versatile, and always yields perfectly juicy and flavorful chicken. Forget about thawing chicken hours in advance; this method cuts out that extra step completely.

The beauty of this recipe lies in its simplicity and efficiency. You toss the frozen chicken (yes, frozen!) into the Instant Pot with a few simple spices, set the timer, and walk away. When you return, you'll have perfectly cooked chicken ready to be used in countless meals. I often shred it for quick salads, tacos, or sandwiches. Sometimes, I simply serve it alongside roasted vegetables for a complete and satisfying dinner. The flavorful broth left in the pot is a bonus – it’s the perfect base for soup or gravy the next day. It truly is a win-win!

Why this recipe works: The Instant Pot's pressure cooking method cooks the chicken evenly and quickly, even from frozen. The natural release method ensures that the chicken remains incredibly juicy and tender. No dry, overcooked chicken here! The simple seasoning blend allows the natural flavor of the chicken to shine through. You can easily adjust the spices to your liking – adding herbs like thyme or rosemary would be delicious.

Time-saving tips: I often prepare a large batch of this chicken on the weekend and store it in the fridge for quick meals throughout the week. This helps me stay on track with my healthy eating goals even on the busiest days. Freezing leftover cooked chicken is also a great way to extend its shelf life and reduce food waste.

Variations: Don't be afraid to experiment! You can easily customize this recipe to suit your taste. Try adding different spices, such as lemon pepper, curry powder, or Italian seasoning. You can also add vegetables to the Instant Pot alongside the chicken for a complete one-pot meal. Some suggestions include potatoes, carrots, or onions.

Beyond dinner: The possibilities with this cooked chicken are endless. It's perfect for chicken salad sandwiches, wraps, quesadillas, or even added to pasta dishes. I often use it to make a quick and healthy chicken stir-fry.
